Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year rum

Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year

Jamaica | Aged | 43% ABV

Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.

The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

I could take 15 minutes to tell you the story on how it was a pain to get one bottle of Appleton 12 yr through the Pennsylvania Liqour Control Store.
EDIT: revisited this rum again and dropped my rating from 6 to 5. Just a harsh rum that for $4 more I can get outstanding Plantation 20th Anniversary.

Left it sit for a while before sipping and thought it was a little strong and harsh. Dropped half an ice cube in and what a difference. Very nice sipper.

good rum but does not stand out among others I have tried.
It is perhaps on the same level as Flor de Cana 12, maybe slightly more complex and sweeter, although i am aware this contains no added sugar.
It is citrusey and oaky on the palate and i have nothing against that. Resembles fine whiskey.

Habe diesen Rum durch Zufall entdeckt und war von seinem Geschmack angenehm überrascht. Schmeckt pur und auch als Mixgetränk.

I thought it would taste smoother because it aged for 12 years, but I find the taste too sharp.

Den virker lidt tynd i det og smager ikke som andre Jamaica rom jeg har smagt.
Der en smag af røg og jeg tror det er blomme, men er ikke sikker.

Nice rum. Nutty taste, yet a dery dry finish. I tried it straight, but its dryness ruin the tasting experience. I am very dissapointed for the price paid.

C'est un rhum bon mais sec. Si vous préférez les rhum doux celui ci n'est pas pour vous. Un rhum qui vous rappelle que les pirates anglais buvaient des vraies boissons d'hommes.
This is a good but dry rum. If you prefer sweet rum this one is not for you. A rum that reminds you that English pirates drank "real men" drinks.
