Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year rum

Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year

Jamaica | Aged | 43% ABV

Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.

The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

I like this rum, especially for the low price of only $36.99 (Beltramos 2015)!

It's a tad sweeter than the Appleton 21. Very close to that in taste, but possibly even better. A bit strong for beginners at 43% abv. Notes of oak, almond, vanilla, molasses, and nutmeg. Has a nice smell, and a good aftertaste too!

Now, first off I must say that I did this right. I had never tried Appleton and had gone straight to the 21-year blend for starters. Good choice because the 21-year is nothing short of amazing. But this review is about the 12-year, isn’t it? And that’s where Appleton truly excels here. The 12-year has much of the same identical characteristics as the 21...yet different. A little more burn, a little less underlying flavor notes. Same fruity funk that’s in the higher blends...overall a winner. Being from the South, I’ve even tried it making sweet tea. Yeah, it’s light years better than using sugar. Where others taste orange peel, I taste something like snapple, very similar to the older blends. This rum, to put it bluntly, kicks ass. Joy Spence is a champion mixer and this blend is street worthy and classy all the same. At just under $40 a bottle, you can’t beat it. Delicious.

It might not be as good sipper, as some top-shelf rums are but it mixes awesome with fruits, syrups and other stuff. Barrelnotes mixed with funky fruit skins, nice expirience. Sweet enough to be enjoyed neat/on the rocks. Not so striking with alcohol, but strong and confidient to be a bouron challanger.

This has been my go to run for 10 years. Prior to the recent relabel/rebrand, I found it distinctly better, but have no proof on the difference other than the 2 bottles I've made last as long as possible.

Good solid rum. Smooth. Not spicy or sweet. Their older aged rums are better

Kdo miluje Jamajku, bude spokojen, vůně hodně jemná, ovocná, koření, chuť hodně příjemná Jamajka. Cena výkon sakra dobrý 👍

Good, strong taste and a little bite in the end. Love a good glass of this one on a cold night (or just any night for that matter).

This is always my go to rum if I can find a restaurant or bar that serves it. Beautiful dark golden color perfect blend of heat and smoothness. Great neat, on-the rocks or mixed.
