Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year rum

Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year

Jamaica | Aged | 43% ABV

Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.

The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

A bit of citrus, a bit of molasses, strong oak notes with just a slight hint of Jamaican funk. A classic rum that is both a delicious sipper as well as outstanding, albeit more expensive, "dark Jamaican" mixer. If used as a mixer, it will certainly elevate any cocktail or tiki drink that calls for it.

This one is their best so far. I really enjoyed the smoothness and taste. Great with a single ice cube. I expected the complexity in flavors of a typical "12-year" rum, but got much more. As the rum first rolls over the taste buds, a rather strong flavor of oak and a bit of smoke dominates the senses. In this, whiskey lovers should feel right at home.

This style of rum is too dry for my pallet to be a sipper. It does however go really well with coke. I do appreciate the presentation. I don’t really care for the 21 year old either. It might just be a style thing.

Full of flavor, not to sweet but leaves a nice aftertaste.
Totally different from the signature blend from the company.
Until know one of the all time favorite.

I do not care for that funkyness it has but paired with a cigar I don't pick up on it anymore. I do like it because of no sugar added.

This is fairly dry but with a wonderfully complex flavor profile. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of the funk /hogo taste that is typical of many Jamaican rums. The Appleton 12 year does have a hint of that, but it is well balanced with other flavors. If you want a similar quality without hogo, I would highly recommend Mount Gay XO.

I had this at the Montego Bay airport in Jamaica mixed with coke. The rum had a nice taste that come through the cola but didn’t over power or burn. Very smooth.

I like the nose and initial taste with a nice oaky and almost smokey flavor profile, and there is some other things going on, but it all faded pretty quick to me. So its ALMOST very good as a sipper, but doesn't have the staying power for me. But its good as a mixer in certain drinks. Maybe I have to try a different bottle as my experience with it was not like most of the descriptions and reviews I've seen.

Bought it because it seemed good value, based on its ratings and because it was measured on different websites for added sugar and it had none. Tastes good but not great. Wouldn't use it as a gift or when I have guests but perfect for a glass after a long day.
