El Dorado 21 is produced near the equator in Guyana by Demerara distillery. The final product is a blend of rums, aged between 21 and 25 years and crafted using 100% locally sourced Demerara sugar. Traditional tools are used in the distilling processes including three unique wooden stills. The rums rest until maturity in 45 gallon oak casks.

A nice suprise, very smooth and decadent. Has strong notes of vanilla and honey. Great in my growing collection.
A very good rum, one of the best I ever tasted yet
Just a hint of vanilla. Woodsy. Slightly sweet but not over the top. Alcohol comes through but within limits. A quite nice rum.
Nose: Lots of oak and your typical Demerara straight away with liquorice, aniseed and a little bit of tar. The brown sugar you use to make cakes with, infact….yes, overcooked and slightly caught fruit cake. Molasses, blackberry jam, prunes, bananas, black coffee and a little bit of smoke. There are some woody spices in there too, your typical cinnamon and clove while a slight mentholly note picks things up a bit. Pretty complex actually and a fair bit lighter (well, less “heavy”) than the 15 year old. Oh, a nice bit of worn leather pops up after a while too. There is a good bit of age on the nose.
Palate: Sweet delivery and semi-viscous mouth feel. Not as bad as I was expecting given I know this is loaded with sugar. Herbal, minty, banana liqueur, prunes, figs, dates, maybe a hint of orange/marmalade. Lighter liquorice, slightly bitter coffee, actually there is a fair amount of bitterness given the sugar levels (too much cask?), black cherry jam and a touch of earthy mushroom. Pretty complex despite the meddling.
Finish: Medium to long, quite sappy and actually bitters off with some strong oak. Touches of leather, cigar smoke and a burst of bitter orange marmalade, some black coffee and a handful of fresh herbs. Ends with that fuzzy buzz you get with altered rum and the lingering taste if a confusing mix of sweet and bitter that’s not entirely pleasant nor is it unpleasant.

This is my favorite sipping rum so far and about as much as I would ever want to normally pay for a bottle.
We have tried the 12/15/21 all in the same evening and the favorite was the 15. The 12 is a great mixer.
Found it on sale in Florida for 89.99. Not a purchase that can be made very often, but money well spent just the same.
Enjoy!
El Dorado rums are classics, but the 21 years is distinguished by an exceptional taste that elevates the standards of rum to the best I've had the chance to taste
A little different but, as good as the 15 year old, a little different due to the extra time in barrels, but truly a great rum. Not 10 as the 15 years old is as good, but cheaper.
For a 100$ in Québec,CA you can get better than that for a lower price, it as a strong wood barrel after taste.
Mult laudatul El Dorado de 21 de ani nu e ceea ce te astepti sa fie. Sincer, sunt putin dezamagit de gustul unui rom de 21 de ani.
Woo.. Not from this planet.. Aromă puternică de butoi daaar... Nu deranjanta... Dulceag dar nu persistent.. Un rom desăvârșit din toate punctele de vedere.. Merge cu un trabuc premium.
'spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar'
"El Dorado 21-Year rum review by The Ultimate RumGuide"
There is an extra layer of oak in the profile.
"Notes of oak and a slight spiciness also comes through. The rum is very smooth and easy drinking but complex enough to ensure you savour each sip of the drink. The finish is long lasting."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The El Dorado 21 has a nice oaky nose, with spice and a touch of honey. I really enjoy this rum, unless I drink it next to some of the other rums I've rated higher. I'm a bit of a sucker for sweet aged rums, and this one isn't as sweet as most of the others I've tried. Very good, but I think there are better at this price point. And I agree with others who said the El Dorado 15 is about equal to the 21 (at only half the price).
