This is a Family Selection Rum, you need to have it but, drink it in special moments or with the family. Like all others El Dorado is perfectionon the bottle, I love it From the first sip , very harmonious, with character, sweet and the usual wood flavor. Absolute pleasure from the first contact with the tongue up to the grandiose finish !

This is a blend from the Enmore still, the coffey Diamond still and from the Port Mourant double wooden Pot still. It's incredible what you get here.
I would say it's a blend of mainly Enmore with Versailles and PM. It's a little bit too sweet, I would prefer it's natural taste. Enmore is already sweet witout additional sugar.

It's rich and a quite complex rum. It's molasses driven and intensive at just 43%. I would prefer more abv, but for the main market with many sweet rum lovers this is enough.
Taste is richer than ElD15, more complex, less sweet, with more aromas. It's very enjoyable.
But if you are a beginner go for ElD15 first, ElD21 has some more heavy aromas (wood influence -> iodine with bitter taste), maybe you will not understand this masterpeace because of that.
I would kill for a ElD21 in cask strength, such a beauty would cost more that 150€ for sure.
Enmore 1997 from Rum Nation for example costs 167€.

The nose starts like a typical Enmore rum with honey, raisins, molasses and the typical Enmore wood (oak with iodine). PM is lungering in the background. I get wood, oranges zest, a hint of anise and grasy notes. Green walnuts and dry fruits are also in the nose. You will find much more flavors there, just see my tasting notes. Damn this is good and complex.

The taste starts almost like the nose with Enmore flavors. Raisins, molasses and honey. A sweet bitter note is on my palet (green walnuts), sounds like the bitter sweet symphony and it's really is.
In the middle taste I get the orang zests with wood and herbs (sage, mint). This is the VSG -> Versailles still mark (a bottler named this mark MDXC - Main Diamond X for Versailles and Coated -> molasses coated).
The finish is middle long, there is not enough abv for a longer finish. I get some spice, liquorice, mint, burned sugar, iodine. Very tasty blend, Enmore, MDXC and PM flavors are there and in a good balance.
I would rate it with 88 points. At cask strength without sweetening we could speak about 94 points I think.

Smell: molasses (coffee), caramel, dry orange peels, herbs/grasy notes, honey, green walnut, iodine, dried fruits, burned sugar, black tea, wood. Incredible rich nose.
Taste: molasses, raisins, honey, wood, iodine, date
Middle: orange peels, walnuts, honey, caramel, sage/herbs, grasy notes, raisins
Finish (middle long): spices, liquorice, mint, burned sugar, iodine (this one has seen some old casks)
Aftertaste: honey, papaya, walnut, mint, some leather

Sweetness: 3.5/5
Spice: 2/5
Fruits: 3/5
Mildness: 3.5/5
Value (65€): 4/5
Experience level: amateur to expert

Harsh smokey rum, a bit like an single malt whiskey. Round, big bodied liquid for the advanced rumdrinkers with a big wallet. I don't want my rums to taste like whiskey. If I want whiskey I drink whiskey. Hope that the 12 yo is my cup of tea instead.

Well it is a very very very good one. Some special one. But not perfect. I tried it in a small 5 cl bottle

El Dorado rums are classics, but the 21 years is distinguished by an exceptional taste that elevates the standards of rum to the best I've had the chance to taste. Unlike other rums, it is assembled with a minimum of 21 years old rums and not, as usual, containing at least the oldest at 21 years old (solera). From Guyana, it is aged in oak barrels and distilled in over 200 years old wooden stills. Knowing these technical details it is easier to understand the wealth behind this rum. Just the bronze color and even with the slowly running legs on the glass, we can guess the aging of more than two decades. Iin the mouth it is dry with oak aromas, spices (vanilla, cinnamon) and brown sugar. A small smoked aroma packs all, in a almost perfect harmony. In the final, vanilla dominates, but a little chocolate taste is also present. From beginning to end there is no burn, no tingling, just a balance flavor that gives this rum superb qualities. Enjoy it alone, without ice, without accompaniment. The 12 and the 15 years old are quite special rum, but with the 21, El Dorado is distinguished from others.

I won't give it a 10, but I find myself going back to this bottle again and again. It's sublime the way the flavors are presented when sipping on this. I'm just starting the bottle so I may adjust my score up or down a star by the time I finish it, but it's certainly on my keep a bottle in the bar list now.

Heavy, sweet, smooth... Rich and savory. Superb sipping rum.

This is the best rum I've come across so far. It was so smooth in its taste that it almost felt off. Definitely a case where you get what you pay for.

I was disappointed by this one. A smooth whiskey would have done the same trick for me. The dry taste of bourbon barrels caught me off guard. Not what I expected after the good 12 year old and wonderful 15 year old.

Sugar: 34 gpl. At first this has a sweet wood or chemical type of smell then it gives way to a nice tobacco and smokey wood flavor. The initial bite gives settles down to a nice warm finish. This rum continues to taste better each time I sample it.
It is sweet and is somewhat similar to Diplomatico Exclusiva only this rum has a bit more oak to it. It is the best of the El Dorado line so far. It's worth trying, but at $110 per bottle my thoughts were that the taste does not justify the cost.
