El Dorado is interesting. It smells very bland and boring in the bottle/glass, typical stuff you smell from any non-commercial rum. However drinking it straight is very unique. I would not recommend straight, it is quite the harsh sipper and I always find myself scratching my head at how some people sip somethings straight. It needs a tad of cola to tame it. But wow what a nice body. Thin entry, huge body in the middle that is super blent together to make this wonderful unique taste and a typical rum ending, silky is a way to describe it. Its a good blend of sweetness and dry. It's good but not worth the price honestly. Comparable to Mount Gay XO quality and price range. It would be more enjoyable too if their was less heat but that's okay can't win them all but it's a very good thing to sample. I picked mine up in a thing call a "connoisseurs choice" pack where it had the 12, 15 and 21 year for 10$ at the duty free. Which if you're like me and just like to buy to sample it's a very economic way to sample!

J'aime beaucoup.

Nose: The aromas are very similar to Cognac. The front is sweet and oily, reminiscent of a Chinese medicine, made with honey and herbs, that I often came across before. Lindt chocolate with liqueur in it. There's also oyster sauce, pepper, and dusty wooden chairs from my grandma's storage room. Sporadic hints of light mocha cake.

Palate: Distinctly sweet and has very much the same notes as in the nose. This time, through, the mocha takes a step forward, accompanied by warm cappuccino. Glazed bananas, pancake syrup, and lots of tannins. There's a slight bitterness near the end.

Finish: Medium finish and still sweet. Lingering wood.

Very smooth, but not as flavorful as the 15 year. I won’t buy this again, too expensive for the taste.

This is a very pleasant rum, and very well made. It just isn't that interesting. A refined and drinkable rum, I can't find any fault in it except that it just lacks... Something I just can't put my finger on.

Great rum for whiskey drinkers. Features notes of vanilla, fruit and molasses, like the 12-year and 15-year, with powerful notes of oak and an incredibly smooth finish. The only thing that deters me from buying this again is the $120 price point.

Very hard notes of oak, for me it is very similar to some kind of whiskey. El Dorado 12 is more to my toungue. El Dorado 15 is next to be tasted.

Edit: After few weeks, when i have tryed this rum again I have completely changed my mind, hard oak whiskey notes are gone, only perfection left in the bottle now !

It’s 21 yrs. nuff said. It’s sweet and rich so that’s really all you need to call it a night.

This is good (really a 7.5), would happy drink again, and it's a nice sipper, but given the choice I'd take the 15-Year Old any time - just seemed a little unbalanced in comparison.
