Guyana | Aged

El Dorado 21 is produced near the equator in Guyana by Demerara distillery. The final product is a blend of rums, aged between 21 and 25 years and crafted using 100% locally sourced Demerara sugar. In certain circles, rums aren't considered as refined and nuanced as other spirits, El Dorado 21 is my answer to them. It's moderately priced and reasonably available, but the craftsmanship, history, and sippablity of this rum puts it in league with the finest spirits on the market. It's a solid 9 out of 10, not just against other rums, but across the board. Toffy, vanilla, caramel, oak, black pepper, smoke, molasses, fig, notes of honey and sugar cane. I sip this rum after dinner, neat, no water, just straight rum and it's pretty damn close to perfect.

Was/am an avid whisky drinker. Stumbled into rum at a friends house. He was out of whisky, so I asked for a rum and coke. He was out of coke,so he just handed me a glass of rum. It was Flor de Cana, and it opened my eyes. I finished a bottle of El Dorado 12 and decided to step it up a notch... Although pricey, what a great drink.

Spicy oak, with hints of toffee and vanilla. Heat in the mouth, with little to no burn in the throat. Fantastic!

I was able to sample this rum at a local liquor store as buying a bottle (almost $400) was out of the question.

Extremely smooth, slightly sweet, with an interesting caramel flavor. A bit of a spicy feeling on the tongue, with almost no burn when swallowed.

Personally, I do not think the vast difference in price warrants purchasing it over the El Dorado 15 year or Zacapa.

Finally added this bottle to my collection, have been keeping the 15 year around as a constant staple on my shelf. The El Dorado line is one of my favorites and now I just need a special occasion to open this addition. Like maybe a Monday.
