Drier - and tastier - than the 15yo which swims in sweet. Not bad. One can find Demerara flavours in this one, spices and all.

My rating will probably rise to a 10 the more I get to know this rum. The 12yr old is lovely but this is an obvious level above. Very rich, dark fruits, not too sweet and a touch of smokiness.

The above was my first reaction, rating at 9. Today it's dropped to a 7. It's obviously a deeper darker version of the 12, more complex and so on, but does this mean it's better? Not for me. I can't yet distinguish all the flavours but I do get an overpowering effect of raisin or prune juice which spoils it.

My views change when I look back at old reviews. Overall opinion of this rum is don't go near it for £80, get two bottles of the 12 yr old instead. This rum was too long in the barrel. For a rum at that price, you shouldn't need to add water to try and kill off the overpowering prune flavour. Diplomatico 2002 is around the same price and far far superior.

I expected to be blown away by this after loving the 12 and 15 yr however was disappointed. I don't believe it is worth the extra $$. Maybe one day I can afford to sample the 25 yr and compare

One of my favorite rums is the 15yr. This one is not as good , I'll stick to the 15

I was very excited to try it since I really love the 15 - year. As much as it is a great Rum, I have to say that I am disappointed I expected something better for the price. I am not a big fan of the acidy level, too high for me. Also the length comes short and seems to binary in my opinion for this price range.

Very good sipping rum, but not as good as I would have expected based on the price. After reading the other reviews I am interested in trying the 15 year next time.

I had high hopes for this based on how good the 15 yr is, but it’s not as good. The price isn’t worth it...

Kellemes ital de a 12 és e köztt én nem éreztem hatalmas különbséget. Ezt is és azt is simán tudom kortyolgatni! Ajánlom kipróbálásra!

I ordered an El Dorado 15 at a bar once, but they didn't have it. I bought few drinks before (plus tipped them for great service) and they "treated" me to it, for 15's price. I was a little tipsy already, but i remember the taste; sweet, like honey and caramel, with a slightly numbing aftertaste. To be honest, if the waitress hadn't explained all of that to me in detail, i would think it was the 15 that i was drinking. I know the specifics about this distillery, the tradition and old technology used, but their rums are too sweet, too mild and according to my humble opinion, too overpriced, as well. Seems to be ideal for a dessert though, but for that purpose, i would certainly prefer Dictador Insolent XO much better. Decent choice, still. Rum drinkers with a sweet tooth for sweet rum, just add 2 points to my score. Still, not a top shelf ace, in my cabinet.
