El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including double wooden pot stills and are aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.
Suger dominates the profile. Its similar to Diplomatico Exclusiva with maybe a slightly better over flavor. There is some maple syrup, vanilla, oak, and pepper on the finish with everything playing second fiddle to the sweetness.
Extremely rich flavor, very smooth, great color, everything you want in a rum. To call it the Cadillac of rums would be to overestimate Cadillacs. I prefer it even to the 15 and 21 and it's as cheap as the intermediate rums of its competitors.
My favourite for regular consumption.. Sweet and complex - I never get sick of it.
One of my favourites by a mile. Can't think of many more I'd prefer to be sipping on for the same price.
Super dark color, a bit of a bit initially but it mellows out after the first sip. Great texture, smooth. It's got a number of flavors, very sweet and a bit dry. Definitely a go-to sipping rum, an easy one to enjoy over and over.
Of all their aged runs this is my favourite. Sweet, complex and delicious.
For anyone just starting out in building their rum collection, this is THE demerara rum to own! Makes a great Donga Punch. Mix with equal parts Smith and Cross and you have a world class blended rum that cannot be beat. I am interested to see how it compares to El Dorado 8, though. The 8 is very difficult to find in my area.
Having already tasted the 3, 5 and 15, I thought it would be about time, that I had a go with the most common of the El Dorado rums.
Nose: Brown sugar, tobacco and a slight oaky whiff in the end
Taste: Brown sugar, honey, vanilla and some oak in the short and sweet aftertaste
Overall: This rum is fine. It is nothing mindblowing and to sweet for my likings, but it is a good entry rum for newer rum drinkers and it should get some merit for that.
Sapore ci caramello iniziale, cioccolato finale.
Absolutely perfect. Tasted very good, price very good.
This is one of the best rums I have tasted. It has a light tase and a lingering finish. Slightly fruity aroma. I don’t think it is overly sweet.
I feel that this is an excellent sipping rum. The noise is heavy with a molasses carmel note that pleasantly follows through to the taste. I have also noticed that when chilled, I taste a slight banana along with a stronger baking spice.
Overall I would recommend this rum
Rich plums, caramelized apples, coffee, dark chocolate and spices.
I prefer it straight
Received as a gift. Nice amber color, complex aroma. Medium weight on tongue, nice smooth finish with slight burn. Very nice - I would get this again when this one gets kicked.
It is a decent sipping rum, but nothing special......
God balance mellem sødme og tørhed og nem at genkende.
El Dorado 12 is a really nice rum. I can’t compare much since I’m new to the rum game, but I find this rum as a very good option for the price. It’s just a tiny bit sweeter than some others (e.g. Zacapa 23) and the taste is not as complex or deep, but the quality is there and the rum tastes really good. I have to say i prefer this rum over for instance Diplomatico Reserva.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this rum to anyone looking for a more simple - but not really dull - quality rum.
I enjoyed this one. Great taste. Not to sweet. Like the Smokey level
I really like the syrupy smoothness of this one, along with a strong character that lasts in mouth. Truly great.
Nádherná vůně dubu, ovoce, rozinek, vanilky a karamelu, příjemně sladký. Nemusí dlouho odvětrávat, není totiž nepříjemně lihový. Vhodný i pro holky. Doporučuji!!!
Really versatile, with the price can mix or sip. I generally sip though
Flavourful and rich but not as complex as I’d like
I had many trips to Cuba and always enjoyed Havana Club 7 yo. Up until now I did not try anything else except Cuban rum. Once I've brought from there Santiago de Cuba 11yo and have found it so smooth and delicius compared to HC. Since then I've discovered world is full of different rums ). Had tried 12 of them so far. And I will rate them comparing to HC as the base rated 6.
