Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

There are better rums. There are cheaper rums. But for the price (<$30), this is the finest rum you can buy. Great starter, delicious sipper. Neat, or on ice. Wonderful. Light taste, slightly sweet, smooth. Delicious aroma. Magnificent nose. There's always a bottle of ED12 in my cupboard.

Not great by itself, but the best mixer I’ve found yet. The sweetness works well with anything you’d want to use. Great in a Cuba Libre...

I like Demerara rums. Rich molasses is just what I am into.
And El Dorado 12 could be spot on. Woody, leathery, raisiny nose. Clear smell of molasses, caramel, somewhat funky, a hint of smoke. All great. But... ...you can already smell the sweetness. It is much too well-rounded, much too polite, too smooth.

And, on sipping, unfortunately that is exactly how it turns out to be: All the good things from the nose are somewhat there, but muted by way too much sweetness. This kills the funk and mutes everything else. To its credit, it gets better after a few months in the open bottle, when oxidation took its toll. This seems to increase the wood in the finish, which makes for a nice dry ending. The rum is still too sweet in general.
I am not sure I like the liquorice note in the taste. That is probably from the rum itself and reminds me of the part that I do not enjoy too much in Lemon Hart Demerara and Myers's Dark.

I think this would be excellent stuff if unsweetened. A wasted opportunity. I like the (considerably cheaper) Pusser's much better. Even though the potential of the El Dorado 12 clearly shines through. Frustrating. Thus my verdict: Good stuff, but somewhat spoiled with sugar and thus frustrating.

Still, the price is quite good and if you like sweeter rums, but you also would like some actual flavours in your rum, this is a good choice.

Vrlo intenzivan, tamni rum, aromatican, ali mi nije izbalansiran bas najbolje. Previse mi do izrazaja dolazi alkohol.

A downgraded El Dorado 15, a definite upgrade from its 8 year old brother. The alcohol is much more emphasized than in the 15 but still what I could qualify as ok for sipping. Sweet enough to not be confused with random moonshine branded as rum, but not one of those perfectly engineered blends, not that I personally have any problems with a good blend.

For as strong as the sherry nose it has, it is not as sweet as I expected, which is a good thing. There is some nice oak and spice on the tongue and a smooth, enjoyable finish. But it definitely does have its sweet moments, but nothing too strong. I especially love the bottle. It looks like something that would wash up on the beach from a pirate ship wreck. Have only drank it neat, but would love to try it in my Mai Tai recipe and in an old fashioned. Good staple bottle for a rum collection.

Ár/érték arányban az egyik legjobb ital.
Harmónikus,hosszú lecsengésű.
Nem a legszofisztikáltabb rum a piacon,de nagyon kellemes az íze.
