Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

I still don't like rum by itself, but the aftertaste of this one almost changed my mind. Great tiki mixer.
Lovely 12 year old sipping rum that's smooth and sweet with hints of caramel. Neat with two cubes of ice is perfect. Great quality for the price.

Rhum avec beaucoup de sucre ajouté (~35g/L), trouvable à prix légèrement coûteux (40-50€) chez un vendeur de spiritueux.
Il m'a introduit tout en douceur dans le merveilleux monde du rhum, très caramélisé de par son sucre ajouté et n'attaque pas, il donne une porte d'entrée facile aux personnes qui sont attirés par la douceur du rhum, et une excellent transition vers d'autres rhums plus secs et souvent sans sucre ajouté.
Pour les plus habitués, il est toujours sympa d'avoir de côté pour être partagé ou siroté tranquillement si le sucre ne rebute pas.

Lihovar vznikl na přelomu 17-18 století, původně byl určen námořníkům, kteří se v Guyaně usadili při hledání pokladu bájného El Dorada.
Díky jedinečnému způsobu destilace a použití výhradně melasy jako základu tvoří El Dorado rum samostatnou kategorii karibských rumů – Demerara. Tím je také dána jejich obecná charakteristika: velmi aromatické, s plným tělem a bohatou chutí.
( Číslo 12 označuje nejmladší složku rumu v lahvi )
Názor : Pokud někdo hledá typického představitele rumu v této cenové kategorii okolo 700,- neudělá chybu. Rum je plný, jemně nasládlý s chutí kůže, dřeva a melasy v závěru pak do suchosti. Ideální na celovečerní popíjení. Určitě si pořídím vyzrálejší kousek této značky.
This was ok as a sipping rum. Had it with a cigar.

I love this rum for its flavor but even more for its availability - I can generally always find a bottle even in restricted ABC stores in VA. It’s complex and makes for an excellent base in topical cocktails to balance out the sweetness and acidity.

Great rum if u like that specific demerara taste as i do. Its complex, not syrupy at all, but powerful and smooth.
Its a sipper so drink it neat.

South American rum is growing on me. I was a fan of the Venezuela and am happy to report that Guyana is not disappointing. this has a little bit of a Zacapa feel but way less sugary and more oak. It's smooth and light but packs a punch. I used it in a Kingston Palaka and was quite happy but it is also very good as a sipping rum.

Aroma: Ve vůni mi jako nejvýraznější přijde kořenitost, a to hřebíček, ale s přechodem (při hlubším zkoumání) až celer, libeček, taková ta polévková kořenitost, skoro bujón.
Chuť: Chuť je fantastická, nejsladší ze zatím ochutnaných rumů, a vůbec mi ta krásná medová sladkost po rozinkách nevadila,takový nektar, který má zajímavé kořenité dokončení, opět se vkrádá hřebíček s celerem.
Body: 89
