El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including double wooden pot stills and are aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Very similar in taste to the above, but a bit richer. Not sure how the Venezuelans are still producing anything aged as the economy is in ruins, so I like to think that this rum still holds true to tradition.
Another one of my favorite rums! Full of delicious and subtle sweet tastes (more subtle than the Diplomatico Reserva for example) and very friendly to the throat. I need to keep myself from reaching to this one every night!
I would love to taste the same rum with less added sugar.
Was my favorite rum for years but now I just cant stand the sweetness anymore. My new favorite sipping rum in the same price range is the Appleton Estate Extra 12YO.
For this price you can't get a better rum although the step up to the 15 is well worth the extra few quid. Rich molasses and smoothness of a typical el dorado. This has minimal burn, flavor isn't overly complex but holds its own against more expensive rums. This was the first bottle of "proper" sipping rum I tried so might be a touch of nostalgia in this review
By far one of the best rums out therefor the money. Lots of flavours and enjoyable mixed with anything! Has a lot of the flavours of the more aged El Dorado rums at a much better price.
This is the first El Dorado that I've been able to get and I must say I like it! Nicely balanced rum especially for the price!
Very nice good for all rum drinker a bottle to have in your cabinet.
Pris. 200 DV
Good price and deep smooth rum. Definitely a re-buy.
My favourite sipper. I'm out right now and I'm missing not having a bottle.
I tried the 5, 8, 12, 15 & 23 at the UK rumfest the 12 was the most enjoyable ..... But that was a lot of rum in one hit and without drinking a whole bottle of the 15 and not being able to afford the 23 it's hard to be sure...
Really rich, caramel, hazelnut kind a like taste, color really lovely amber, prize was reasonable. This goes great with not so special evenings, with good company and some nice blunts.
Had the 12 year old El Dorado at the Saint House and rum Bar in Tucson Az 2 weeks ago ! Was blown away by this 12 year old Rum ! It's great in a Daiquiri , trust me ?
Den gør absolut ingen fortræd. Den er sød og blød. Rund og rar. Her får man lidt mere at lege med end fx RZ23.
Some reviews state that sugar was added or artificial sweeteners. Not quite sure how this rum has high alcohol to the nose with a strong bitter burnt taste. I specifically bought this in hopes of finding a "Sweet Rum". No go for me.
Not quite as tasty as the 15 year old but excellent rum for the price

This one is a bit sweeter and less punchy than the 15 yo and to me this one is perfect in cocktails but of course, also a good sipper. The 12 year old is the sweeter of the El Dorado rums, and copper colored. It’s aged in used whisky and bourbon barrels. In 2006 it was reformulated, It has tasting notes of fruit, tobacco and orange peel and has tropical fruits and spice nose. This rum contains predominantly copper coffey still rum from Diamond blended with the double wooden pot still at Port Mourant and marques from the Enmore wooden Coffey.
A rum that I find so very enjoyable, especially considering the price. The nose is full and a little spicy with notes of rounded oak, leather, and sweet citrus.
The full demerara palette is smooth with molasse sweetness, tobaco, distinct citrus undertones, some barrel notes and perhaps a bit of liquorice. The aftertaste lingers with a cosy, lightly warming sensation.
