Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

The smell is fruity and alcoholic...last goes away a bit after letting it breathe...but still sensable...

The taste is good with a burn at the end...the taste sticks a while around...

I tried after the 12 year old the older brother, the elderly dorado 15. Did not like it too much...it kinda stinks compared to the 12. I am surprised as well that they differ so much from each other...the taste is Ok from the 15, but the smell and taste is in my opinion way better with the younger 12.

I give the 12 a solid 7...but there are better rums out there...for example the Plantation 20th Anniversary...from the price range closer to the 15. In the same price range of the 12 ist the Ron Barco de Vargas which tastes better than the 12.

I will keep the 12 in my bar stock though.

If you have someone over who is not used to drinking rum, this I a good bottle to serve. Easy to start with, tasty on the go but a little alcoholic-burn afterwards. The more older rums of this distiller are quite good, so I would recommend to get this one in you casket but buy an older one for more special occasions!

OCENA 81/100

Unfortunately, this 12-year-old EL Dorado was a little disappointing. It is a weak body rum and a bit flavorless. Next time I would go for the 15 years EL Dorado instead.

Sladší rum, který je opět velmi univerzální, trochu ostřejší než Diplomatico, ale řekl bych o něco zajímavější. Kdo má rád sladší rumy, velmi dobrý poměr cena/výkon. Ale žádné překvapení.

Smells of, Caramel and pinneaple. Sweet taste of fruit, pie with a lingering evolution into some spice. I actually prefer this one to the 15.

Strong flavor, a surprisingly complex rum. Works well on the rocks with lime.

Nice and smooth. Lots of brown sugar. Almost too sweet for me.

The El Dorado brand has plenty of visually appealing and easily drinkable blends. The 12 year isn’t the highest end, but it’s certainly the most economic. In my experience, this brand goes on sale often enough that it finds itself priced much more affordably, especially around holidays. A very enjoyable rum that works wonderfully with some ginger beer or a cola. Definitely take advantage of any discounts, but you won’t be disappointed if you pay for it outright.

For me similar to El Dorado 8. A little bit sweeter and even milder in taste.

Rich taste with a wonderful color and full spicy aroma with hints of fruit and toast, with a full body again with the power of fruit, tobacco and orange peel, with the taste of oak.
