Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

If you have someone over who is not used to drinking rum, this I a good bottle to serve. Easy to start with, tasty on the go but a little alcoholic-burn afterwards. The more older rums of this distiller are quite good, so I would recommend to get this one in you casket but buy an older one for more special occasions!
Strong flavor, a surprisingly complex rum. Works well on the rocks with lime.
Nice and smooth. Lots of brown sugar. Almost too sweet for me.
The El Dorado brand has plenty of visually appealing and easily drinkable blends. The 12 year isn’t the highest end, but it’s certainly the most economic. In my experience, this brand goes on sale often enough that it finds itself priced much more affordably, especially around holidays. A very enjoyable rum that works wonderfully with some ginger beer or a cola. Definitely take advantage of any discounts, but you won’t be disappointed if you pay for it outright.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...

It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"It’s very sweet and quite light. It’s very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The smell is fruity and alcoholic...last goes away a bit after letting it breathe...but still sensable...
The taste is good with a burn at the end...the taste sticks a while around...
I tried after the 12 year old the older brother, the elderly dorado 15. Did not like it too much...it kinda stinks compared to the 12. I am surprised as well that they differ so much from each other...the taste is Ok from the 15, but the smell and taste is in my opinion way better with the younger 12.
I give the 12 a solid 7...but there are better rums out there...for example the Plantation 20th Anniversary...from the price range closer to the 15. In the same price range of the 12 ist the Ron Barco de Vargas which tastes better than the 12.
I will keep the 12 in my bar stock though.
