Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Dark, smokey, rick oak like tones. Citrus. Very enjoyable on the rocks, but I have tastier rums in my cabinet. A bit sharp in the back of my mouth. Still not bad at all.
Tastes fair, no additives in my taste.

I got this on recommendation. I can see why it has won awards. Very smooth, nice sweet flavours and goes down well. The only thing keeping me from giving it a higher rating is the fruity, and slightly licorice notes that don't agree with my personal palate. When I compare it to the Plantation Grande Reserve from Barbados, it is a smoother version of that for my purposes at double the price. Glad I tried it, but unfortunately, my search for the perfect rum continues....

This was the first sipping rum I ever purchased... I have not had a glass of whisky since this hit my tongue. It is fantastic. As I try more rums I may come back Nd adjust the score accordingly.

My current favorite sipping rum.

And a total bargain for about $31 here in Canada.

There is nothing wrong in this rum... only that there are better ones out there... But it's a very good sipping rum. No need for ice.

This really is a great rum to nose (brown sugar and orange peel). As the rum breathes i got moka aroma. This rum enters the mouth with a sweet spice explosion. Dark brown sugar, and hints of orange peel is the flavours that i discover. The overall flavour is mild sweet and soft at the end there is some bitterness or smoke which offsets that sweetness nicely. At the end has a warm spicy finish and leaves the mouth and throat heated. No alcohol burn at all. For me it is a very good quality rum.

The darkened glass bottle makes this look richer than it is. It seems strong at first, so I let it breathe...that's the key to tasting it now. Decanter a must. Now the flavor makes me want to take my time. It is now one of my top affordable sippers with Appleton 12 yr.

This bottle was my first non-mixed rum I tried. Certainely, it wasn't my last ! A very good one with a good sugar taste but not too much ! I recommand it to everyone one and the price is pretty good for the quality !

It has nice fruity aroma, sweet taste and smoothly slides down the throat. Perfect for straight sipping.
When I tried this one for the first time it was instant love :-). A friend of mine gave me a chance to choose between El Dorado and Diplomatico. There was something disturbing in Diplomatico so I choosed El Dorado and did not regret that. I am rum newbie so I probably change my preferences after some time and experience, but this is my etalon now.

Christmas/fruit cake, raisins, treacle, caramel with faint notes of clove, nutmeg and vanilla. A truly rich rum full of character, amazing straight, amazing mixed, amazing used for cooking... the downside is, it can be a little sickly which I have been lead to believe is because of the use of artificial sweeteners used :(
