Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

It took me enough time to rate this rum.. Because of it's quality and the glorious sense of sipping satisfaction ..
Till today that I decided to directly blind compare it with Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva that I have rated with 9..
So the story started, two liquor glasses, marked behind the base with the two competitors.. I Served, I asked from my wife to rotate and I tasted.. Then something strange was happened.. the first rum in turn was much upper in the nose, the spices and the aromas, a fantastic combination with vanilla, chocolate, molases, butter, a trully aroma paradisso!!
But, when I tasted the second one was greater in mouth, smoothness, and aftertaste.. I tried again and again till both glasses became empty, then I raised them to see the labels.. To my surprise, the first was the El Dorado 12-Year, I was really fooled, I strongly believed that was Diplomatico!! So, there was no winner from the blind comparison, both rums were great in some points, with the one greater from the other in some different areas..
So, I refilled the El Dorado 12-Year glass, I put a Verve original black vinyl record of the master Oscar Peterson on my turntable, I lighted a cigar and I started to write those lines..
As a conclusion I would like to say that El Dorado 12-Year is a great rum with excellent combination of aromas, aged quality, with body and richness of taste.. It is rated 9 from me as succeded to compete equally with the master of this gategory, Diplomatico..
My previous expensive rums had been some variations of Bacardi but this very dark rum is just way too sweet.
It is easy to drink and most people would probably like it, I find it far too sugary though.
Verstehe die hohen Ratings nicht. Irgendwie langweilig.
Oaky, I think it tastes a lot like it's younger brother (8y), just a little more refined. Don't know if the higher price is justified compared to the 8y old, especially when mixed. I guess I need to have some more tasting sessions.
8/10
This rum as lots of added sugar but tastes excellent. Awesome straight or as a mix. Great bargain for the price.
Op zich een goede smaak maar veel te zoet. Beter Neem je de 8 jaar of 15 jaar.
Not so sweet as Dipomatico but very soft and smooth.. I recommend!
Bought bottle just based on feedback here and I was quite pleased. for 28e it is very nice rum to sip.
El Dorado is a good one for sipping. It's quite strong (alcohol) for me. When there is no Diplomatico left in my cabinet this is a good substitution.
Value for money rum, would not consider to buy his 15 year older brother. This one is not too sweet and has a gentle aftertaste. One of my standards to have in the basket. All day sipper.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...

Itβs sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"Itβs very sweet and quite light. Itβs very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Delightful fruity rum ruined by added sweetness

The nose on this guy is wonderful; immediate, overwhelming sweet and fruity notes dominated by banana, vanilla, and malt, maturing into caramel as it breathes in the glass. This stuff smells great.
I want to believe there's an interesting rum in this glass, but the sweetness of the rum really feels like it's muscling out everything else. I get a lot of baking spices, more banana, citrus rind, leading into oak and caramel... and sugar. Too much sugar. The lingering mouthfeel is syrupy. As a whole, the drink is just revoltingly sweet.
A shame, this one, considering the rest of the flavor profile. It doesn't break the bank, for sure, but there are still legitimately great rums you can pick up for the same price.
