Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Decent sipping rum, quite sweet and smooth but not boring. Could probably serve nicely as a mixer as well!

When the bottle was first opened it was the caramel like smell I noticed, some bottles of rum the alcohol smell is more intense, this one medium with a little bite to the nose. On the rock after it chilled the rum was smooth and had a nice taste. I would like likely buy again.

So, I finally purchased this instead of my go to 15yr old seeing quite few reviews rave about this. After trying several glasses of this in my opinion it just isn't quite there. It needs the extra 3yrs of aging that makes the 15yr old stand out. The price was right at $30 but I will be back to the 15yr old immediately for the extra $15. You get what you pay for!

Sweet and smooth, a good entry level to understand superior rums. Negative note is the enormous amount of sugar added, very annoying, leaving a residue also at the bottom of each bottle. Is not a secret that oak barrels are covered in molasses and ~35/45 g/l sugar is added to this release, making this drink for the most purists more a rum-based spirit than a real rum. Apart from that, itโ€™s sweet, smooth and well rounded, with hints of vanilla, banana, tropical flowers to the nose. Afterburn is pleasant and overall a favourable sipping rum!
