El Dorado 12-Year

In der Nase angenehme Ausgewogenheit von Süße, Frucht und etwas holzig-vanillige Würze. Angenehmeres Aroma als der 15jährige. Im Mund leicht, mild und süß mit dezenten Fruchtanklängen und sehr zurückhaltender Würze. Kaum Holz, keine Ecken, keine Kanten, ausgewogen -- oder eben langweilig.

Un rhum de réellement 12 ans et intéressant, avec des notes de fruits secs, de praliné, de caramel, de vanille et de chocolat noir.
Mais qu'est ce que ce rhum est sucré ! Ce rhum a été trafiqué et fait en réalité 28-29%. Nous avons donc affaire à une liqueur...
Dommage car le rendu initial devait être intéressant.

Som ved 15-års udgaven indeholder denne en god sødme, dog med mindre kompleksitet. - en rigtig fin, god til prisen must rom på hylden.

The color in the glass is the standard dark, glowing brown hue induced by caramel coloring.

The nose is warm, inviting, with a slight turpentine-like off note usual in El Dorado rums. Dried fruits, ginger bread.

Sugar dominates the palate, counter-balanced by some oak and moderate smoky spice. Notes of apricot marmelade and dates. The mouthfeel is rather thin, with an acidic overtone, the finish is oak with lingering sugar.

IMO weakest of the 12, 15, 21 offerings.

So many reviewers rate this above more expensive rums. And I would have rated my first bottle higher. But the current bottle is showing a ending bitterness and a thin, alcoholic mouthfeel that is off-putting. I have 2 full bottles from the same time and source as the first, so I will hope that going back to that batch will improve matters.

Like this one, not sure which I like the most this or the 15y version. Rather sweet taste but has something rough in it too, that balance it up a bit.

Edit: Revisited this rum and now I think it’s overly sweet and because of that lowered scores

Hodnocení: Zde bohužel musím jít proti proudu, jelikož rum mě moc nezaujal. Ano, má výrazné dubové aroma, ano, stojí méně než ostatní lepší rumy a ano, může se s nimi chuťově srovnávat, ale ani přes to všechno si mě nezískal. Asi jsem od něj čekal po všech pochvalných recenzích až moc. Mívám rozpito několik rumů najednou, ale po tomto jsem sáhl málodky (rozuměj obsah ostatních flašek mizel rychleji). Během pití jsem ho vždy podvědomě srovnával se Zacapou, jelikož vůně tohoto rumu mi ji připomněla, a Zacapa je holt někde jinde. Jde o dobrý chutný rum, který ale nemá nic, co by mohl nabídnout jako bonus.

I’m new to rum. So I’m still at the stage where I need rum to be smooth and a little sweet. I’m told this is sweet but I just can’t taste that sweetness as I’m overwhelmed with the strength and aftertaste.maybe down the road when I come back later I’ll enjoy it more but for now I’m just not ready.

It’s really good, but after giving it plenty of thought, the 15 year old is worth the extra money.
