... even though I wanted to try it. It is a bit similar to Don Papa, but less sweet and even a little tart. So somewhat better than expected, it's enjoyable, but not great.
Got it as a gift. Worse than I feared. It's sweet and spiced. I'm not sure if this is rum or a bottled Bumbo (antique mixed drink).
I'm sure people whole like fireball or peanut butter whiskey will love this. I do not.

This is a rum that gets a horrific rep in rum circles due to pure adulteration of a Barbados cask but I taste this being mindful of not letting this taint my view.
Nosing
Burnt sugar , sugar , bananas , cloves
Tasting
Bananas in abundance , teeth rotting sweetness like a banana foam sweet .
I absolutely love this rum! It's very tasty and smooth.

If you read "And a bottle of rum" by Wayne Curtis, you'll note that "bombo" was an early (in the history of rum) mix of watered down rum with extra sugar/molases, which is basically what is on offer here - as such the extra sugar and water make it sippable and easy on the pallet.
That said, based on friends I have introduced it to, the taste definitely splits opinion - much like the reviews I have read here. To me the unusual bananary flavour and easy sipping offers a party like change of scene from more traditional rums.

Lots of sweet vanilla on the nose and then an even sweeter hit of banana. Very thick, synthetic tasting stuff this. Obviously got a lot of added sugar with some artificial banana and vanilla flavouring. OK for a little sip but you don't want too much and it's far too sweet for a mixer. This is not rum, it's more like a hybrid rum / banana rum liqueur.
The flavor is great. One of my favorite together with Flor de Cana 12.

Pri tomto rume som mal velke ocakavania pre jeho recenzie a vsebecne renome. No bol som strasne sklamany. Chut ako pri lacnom alkohole plneho bananovej a vanilkovej umelej prichute. Pozitivne hodnotim iba vzhlad flase.
