Thanks so much for submitting a report. It has been emailed to the Rum Captain and will be actioned shortly.
I’ve learned if you have a nice bottle at a medium price, typically the rum is garbage. This rum is exactly that. No defining quality. Not much different from a cheap bacardi.
Drinkable straight for non-rum folks and chicas. A syrupy mouthfeel with a sweetly vanilla banana flavor. Would taste good mixed or straight to sip like a liqueur.
The most sweetest rum what I have ever tried. Too much for me.
gorgeous aroma amazing taste you can almost taste the cask that it was made in the most true of rums worth the money by far
Fun as an example of "poorly flavored" rum for tastings.
Not for me. Thin and overly dominated by vanilla. 3 of us tasted and all had the same rating.
The first thing you can say about this drink is that it definitely has plenty of banana. I hesitate to call it rum. As others have said it's more of a banana/vanilla liqueur. The first sip confirms the aroma.... with a bunch (no pun intended) of banana and vanilla. Warming and then a slightly bitter banana (surprise) finish. I don't think I'd want to have to drink this very often.
There is not really much if any rum character that I can find in this. Too much spice, banana, vanilla etc. It's sweet but not sugary if that makes sense. The flavor of the drink coats the palate and lingers on and on. The longer I sit here with it next to me the more I dislike it. The aroma is overpoweringly banana. I like sweet rums, dry rums and those right down the middle but I don't like this.
I'd have a hard time recommending this to anyone who wants to taste rum. There are a lot of people out there who like spiced rums and think that is what rum is all about but even to them I'd say just stick with Captain Morgan or CM Private Stock. It's infinitely better and much less expensive.
At $36 in Ohio it's WAY, actually obscenely overpriced. Don't waste your money.
Solid and enjoyable, but not great. Probably not worth the price charged by my local place.
Poor spiced rum, sold as aged in many shops. Tastes the spiced, not the rum
This might not be the highest quality rum, but it is very pleasant to drink. Lot of fruit flavours with little alcohol taste.
However, I also bought Plantation 20th Anniversary XO, which was not much more expensive, and it tastes even better. I think Plantation would be my choice if I had to choose just one, but it is probably more about personal preference.
My first sense was bubble gum. What is in this concoction? Never again
35% ABV (so, not actually a “rum,” but a spiced rum or a liqueur. (Note it never says rum on the bottle, only “Bumbu Rum Company.” Very sneaky.)
I was warned about this rum (it has quite the terrible, well-earned reputation within the rum community), but somehow I was still surprised at just how bad this was. The nose is full of artificial fruit flavor (though they claim everything is natural; well there’s plenty of crap natural ingredients out there). People say banana runts, and that’s pretty close, but it was a lot more than that. Big candy aromas with lots of vanilla. The banana comes on the middle/end of the nose. As for the palate… mostly a sickly sweet, syrupy mess. More runts, maple & cough syrups… really hard to drink.
And yet, underneath all the sticky garbage, (far underneath,) there did seem to be the faintest hint of a decent rum base. A touch of wood? Something actually resembling a drinkable cane distillate? Nothing however to keep it from being, without a doubt, one of the worst (fake) rums i’ve ever had the displeasure of trying.
This liquid is bad, and the people who profit from it are bad too. Please, spare yourself from this experience.
Taste more like a candy than a rum. This is too sweet and almost artificial ! There are so many rum from Barbados.better than that one
We found this rum while on a trip to visit family in Texas. We saw the bottle and decided to give it a try. It has a nice banana, vanilla, almond flavor to it and is smooth. An in-law who hardly drinks loved this rum and we have since gotten some of our local stores to carry it and it sells out. We even have given a bottle to a friend as a yule gift and it is one of his favorites now. This to me, is one of th ebest rums, and for the price, it is top notch
Based on a 16the century recipe? Seriously? I have never seen so much hype for a rum and much to it's credit, RumRatings is the only site out there with a realistic rating for this stuff. Normally, I'm pretty relaxed about the advertising hype, but this stuff represents rum about as much as banana liqueur does.
One of the smoothest rums I've had, with vanilla and banana flavors.
top chuť, top vůně, 35% moučník na způsob Don Papy
I agree with many others. Very sweet, but that is part of the newer rum popularity isn't it? Sugar and 35pc at a high price don't combined too well for me either. Like lots of the sweet stuff it's easy to drink neat or mixed but the biggest draw it the cool bottle. Smooth n easy. Not exactly pirate characteristics but very cool looking anywat
Podle legislativy EU tohle neni rum a už vubec by nemeli prezentovat ze je z Barbadosu ... hnus
As the ratings show there is a lot of differing opinion on this rum. It claims it is based on 16th century local recipes. Neat it has no burn with toasted vanilla maple notes. Most say banana but I also get a hint of cinnamon. If it fits your flavor profile for a sweet spiced rum it’s going to be a favorite. Not my cup of rum but better than any spiced rum I have tasted so far, thus my 6. I could see this in a craft cocktail. The bottle is interesting and displays well if you like a pirate theme. Basically it feels and taste like a liquere so I understand the low rating from some. But hey, I’m liking my rum tastings because their is a wide range of flavors so Cheers.
Lots of good stuff here; vanilla and banana notes. Just too syrupy to be excellent.
