Everything about this rum is impressive. The bottle, the amber color, the subtle notes, the taste.

Ron Carupano is a small, independent Venezuelan distillery producing masterpieces. The best of the bunch are Legendario and Zafra, but there is good quality throughout the aged rum range. The only problem is getting hold of bottles outside of Venezuela!

Was lucky enough to get hold of this exclusive bottle. Too good to be shared...

I am not much of a rum fan, personally prefer the subtlety of cognac. That being said I have had my fair share of rums in my time and by far this is one that I remember vividly. It was head a shoulders above the rest. I wish I have another bottle stashed somewhere.

This rum is 25 year old (no blending), youll get the pure taste from a single barrel. Only 500 hundred bottles of this rum are made per year. Impossible to find in the US. I was lucky to find a bottle at a duty free overseas.

Only 500 per year?! This is probably one of the rarest bottles out there. How is this not more popular?

I consider myself mostly a cognac person. Rum has been a second tier drink for me.
Thank has changed recently when I found myself in the company of a friend who blind tested me with Legendario. Loved it! Took me a while to find a bottle for myself.

Translated roughly from the notes attached to the bottle in Spanish: The finest aged rum. No additives, it is made by hand and retains only its original purity of ingredients. Aged for 25 years in hand selected American white oak barrels assembled in 1983. Made from the best rums in the country, handmade, only 500 bottles annually produced. Single barrel unblended from rum handmade in a batch from October 10, 1983.
I started with an exquisite nosing... the aromas on this one are part of the experience and the taste aligns perfectly with the excellent nose. After allowing my tongue to swim in the the rum and soak my cheeks for a few moments, I swallowed...with only slight pause I note the pallet experience then exhale through the nose with closed mounth (aka Retro-Nasal experience). On the exhale, at the upper back of your throat and up into your lower sinus you get a hint of French Toast with maple and Caribean spice (a bonus you would not experience without the exhale). Extraordinary chemistry between barrel and rum. Don't miss the reto-nasal on this one. wow. On the pallet and nose... Dark dried fruits like dates and figs combine with tobacco, leather, a hint of butterscotch with cinnamon. Simply extraordinary and leaves you longing for another kiss... from the unicorn that this rum is. Really enjoyed this rum in the latin/Central American style that I do prefer.
