No, not likely. This is a 15yo rum from the Caroni Distillery in Trinidad, bottled at 122 proof in Sweden by The Rum Swedes (don't ask). It's an odd melange of flavors and aromas - hey, it's a Caroni, after all. I can pick out overripe tropical fruit, petroleum, fire, and scotch whisky. I realize that may sound rather off-putting, but the flavor is positively addictive. Every sip demands another. And then, it's gone...

Rum Swedes = independant Sweddish bottler. They produce some whiskies and other spirits. That sounds a bit exotic but they seem to offer interesting bottles. Here in Europe they are quite expensive, I prefer not to think about the price overseas... Anyway, back to this rum :
Very strong, very complex as expected for an old cask strengh Trininad rum. Caution : NOT for sweetened rum lovers !!!!!
Let it rest in the glass for a while and take your time to feel all the aromas and flavours. At 61° it needs some time.
There are some typical Caroni features ("""tar, petrol""" as you can read everywhere but these phenolic flavours reminds me more of something like liquorice, olives... maybe just a matter of personal feeling?) but these are not as strong as usual. This Caroni has more fruits than others, oak, even a hit of vanilla ? Tons of differents things to smell and taste. Not an easy rum but very complex and interesting. I did not add any water but maybe it would reveal more flavours ?

From the same bottler I prefer the 1997 but it is just my own taste. They are both worth the try, at least for a sample.
