I had the pleasure to enjoy this one for the first time with a good friend who also enjoys good rums. He had toured there Distillery, which he spoke highly of and brought this bottle back. Lucky me. When we opened the bottle you instantly get a good warm molasses smell with hints of toffee and maybe even coconut. The taste is delicious with a mild heat and flavors of vanilla, toffee and apricot. Very good with very little after taste that is still pleasant. I would definitely enjoy this again.

I toured this distillery on a whim and was able to sample several of their rums. I walked out with a bottle of Gold (Dark and 2 bottles of their Overproof). They make their own caramel there at the distillery and it is noticeable in the rums. No preservatives added. Nicely aged for about 6 months in the barrels. I haven't mixed it with anything yet, it tastes just fine by itself or with ice.

I have been watching Blackwater for couple of years but haven't seen it in the store. So when I saw it on a local shelf, I had to try it. Thankfully, this local distiller did a great job. Nice aroma, but I can't put my finger on what it smells like. But the taste is great. A little sweet, with a little vanilla and toffee, maybe. Nice burn and a pleasant aftertaste.
