Eldorado Rum Special Reserve Rum 15 Year is blended with specially selected aged rums that have been aged in oak casks producing a fragrant rum with a refined, elegant and smooth finish.

Having tasted some other not as adulterated rums coming back to to this has me questioning is it worth the price tag. Yes it has a wine like finish but it's more than the 21 and that's a stellar product this is not worth it. Sad as I really like the 15 but that could be for sentimental reasons.

What I wrote regarding the El Dorado 15-Year Special Reserve applies here as well. However the addition aging in ruby port casks have imparted a noticeable port wine flavor to the rum and IMHO it conflicts a bit. However I am not a fan of any sort of wine so I am negatively biased. However I kept the rating as an 8 because it is still smooth and I realize there are those who like wine and will like this rum. I just happen to think this one suffers somewhat but that's because I hate wine. Other than that this is a smooth rum, albeit sugared, and is an interesting variation of their 15-year rum.

Nose is faint which is surprising for a port finish rum, (note I’m a big el dorado fan) watered down taste no burn tiny hit of bite/peppery finish but I’m missing the port differentiator. Comparing to dos maderas and ron abuelo tawny which definitely are port fwd this is kind of not committed like it’s dating port but isn’t ready for a long term relationship

I tried this on the recommendation of one of the bar staff at the famous original Rum Bar in the beautiful Whitsunday Isles in North Queensland. A very apt rum to try as we were celebrating our 4Oth ( Ruby ) wedding anniversary ! This rum does have a lot of port influences but as I like port , it wasn't a problem.. sweet , smooth and very easy to sip. A big fruit taste of course but in no way overpowering imho.. admittedly I wouldn't buy a bottle but a lovely rum none the less..
