According to their website this rum is the fourth and final rum in their "discovery series" of rums leading up to their flagship rum. The first three in the "discovery series" were released in September, October, and November of 2015 respectively. This rum, the fourth in the series, was released in December of 2015. Their flagship rum, which the four were leading up to, was scheduled to be released in January of 2016. They do list a pot distilled rum elsewhere on the site so I assume that's the flagship rum. I have yet to see it sold in my area. I have read online that the rums in the discovery series are being sold at some locations at collectors' prices since the four in the series were sold on a very limited bases ("500 case allotments over the course of four months" according to their website). Incidentally this distillery also makes a vodka made from sugar cane and also they make a "new world gin" (personally not a fan of gin). They also plan on releasing a bourbon as well sometime in the future.

The color of this rum is a very pale gold. Almost like straw. It has a pleasant, slightly sweet fragrance which hints of vanilla. The flavor is initially sweet with vanilla and butterscotch tones. Seems to have a butteriness to it. A little bite and even some spiciness to it. The finish is a bit dry and grassy. It seems to have an oak undertone to it indicating perhaps an aging in oak barrels. I'm guessing maybe 3 years? It tastes like a young rum. Definitely has character but has just a tad too much edge to qualify as a sipping rum for me. Others might like it as such. However it would be excellent in mixed drinks. I am hoping they have barrels on hand aging longer because I think they would have an outstanding rum at about 7 years and even better at the 10-year mark. This rum is definitely a good mixing rum.
