I have been hesitant for quite some time to buy a bottle of this and rate it. Appleton claims that it is a replacement for it's V/X that has been discontinued. Well, not exactly! The average age of the rums being blended here are a few years younger than the old V/X. This was a strictly cost cutting measure from Appleton.

Pouring some into the snifter shows it to be a deep orange color with faint aromas of hogo funk. Somehow, this blend retains some of the hogo funk on the palate. I now have no regrets in buying it.

With six ingredients to blend all of the flavors into a Mai Tai, I would gladly use this one instead of a more expensive Jamaican rum. As for sipping this one neat, spend a few more dollars to get their Reserve Blend. Their 12 Year Rare Blend is almost twice the price of this one, but I now have this Signature Blend ranked only one point below it. The Reserve Blend is the best bang for the buck when it comes to Appleton Estate rums, but it is also much harder to find.

As part of a cocktail I would give this a 9/10 as it gives lots of great flavors to any cocktail. However, on its own it's only 6/10. It has some sweetness but burns in the throat and even more on the tongue.

A lovely rum for a pina colada. Just throw some pineapple chunks, ice and coconut cream in a blender, add some rum, blend and it cannot go wrong.

My main drive in buying it was the price which is on the entry level of the aged Rums. It is a decent sip but is not something I would buy it again.

Its young, so you can feel the spirituality, even acetone, as it happens from bourbon cask aging. But it's balanced, with the fruity notes and sweetness of Jamaican rums developing through out the testing.

Just a good base rum, adequate for its age, price and quality. I won't go down it.

Better value than other rums for the price. Mount Gay Eclipse used to be my go-to rum for mixing with coke, but this blows it out the water and costs about the same.
Makes a very good mixer, with more complexity to the taste profile than most rums in the £20 ball-park. "Funk" is definitely present, as you would expect from a Jamaican rum, but it's not too overpowering and pairs nicely with coke. Less complex and less smooth than I would ideally want from a good sipping rum, but it is quite drinkable neat (it's the cheapest rum I would say this about).
I've rated it 8 due to the great value for money.

S tymto rumom som dlho bojoval. ked som otvoril flasu hned som vedel ze sam nedopijem, rovnako ako mne nikomu inemu nechutil. Zrejme treba vyskusat nieco lepsie od Appletonu.
