Dos Maderas PX 5 + 5 rum is made from a combination of rums from Barbados and Guyana. It is unique becuase of its triple ageding process where for 5 initial years the rum is aged in the Carribean in oak casks. Next PX 5 + 5 is aged in Spain for 5 years in sherry casks, and lastly for 2 more years in even older sherry casks.
The Dos Maderas family of rums are produced by Bodegas Williams & Humbert, which is a well known Spanish winery founded by Sir Alexander Williams in the late 1800s. The region of Spain where the winery is located has a climate perfectly suited for wine and is known as Europe's wine cellar.

Great find for this price
This is a very smooth and tasty rum. One of those you are proud to share with friends.
Nez et bouche plutรดt doux , on sent un lรฉger parfum de pruneau et de poire .
I'm not opposed to a sugar bomb, so I found this one quite interesting. Its got a LOT of flavor, more than any other rum I've ever tasted. But its also very sweet and rich, so if you prefer dry rums, this isn't for you. I usually try to compare a rum to something similar that I've had before, but I'm having a little trouble finding something similar. I want to say this might be like a more intense version of Zafra 21, but it has more raisin flavor. Since Zafra is one of my faves, this has worked its way onto the fave list as well, and I think I might like it a little better than Zafra actually.
One thing I tried that was interesting is I mixed 4 parts of this to 1 part Barbancourt 15 year, which is a fairly light rum, and the blend of the two took some of the intensity out of the DM, while adding a tiny agricole influence to the mix.
Ironically, this rum is from Barbados, which usually shuns the use of added sugar, but I guess its not strictly prohibited.
Sweet, smooth, definitely some sherry influence. A little bit of baking spices on the mid-palate. Short, sweet finish. Not quite as good as the Luxus from the same brand, but an excellent sipper.
Quality rum. The aging in two sherry cask give this rum a fabulous flavour and aroma
Very good and nice taste. One of my favorite rums. Taste is vanilla and caramel. Aftertaste you can feel oak taste.
Reall classy rum.
Intens and complex aromas, nice soft mouthfill and a beautifull lenght. Incredible value for money.
Rich, plump raisins dominate the palate.
"Quite drying on the palate so the mid palate. A slight oakiness and a little touch of the oak barrel."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
