The name of this rum is indicative of it's nature "Dos Maderas" translates as "two woods" meaning the oak barrels in which it is aged for 5 years and the sherry casks in which it is finished for an additional 3 years. Those three years give it a distinct flavor that is noticeably sherry while easing the oak tones. This results in a fairly nice rum. However this is best suited for mixing. The sherry flavor won't overwhelm the adult beverage of your choice but will give it a little bit of a twist in flavor due to the sherry finish. Sipping it reveals a sweetness to it that isn't too strong. There is vanilla and toffee flavors underneath but the sherry tones come forward rather quickly before the burn takes over. However the burn fades quickly leading back to the sherry. It's almost a mixed drink in of itself if you happen to like drinking sherry as well as cooking with it. In my honest opinion I feel this is better suited for mixed drinks. Especially anything with grenadine in it. The grenadine and sherry flavors play well together. Also this is quite good in coke zero as well. It's unique enough to be recommendable to add to your liquor cabinet for those times you desire something a little different but not weird. I think more bars, especially tropical-themed bars, should have this as a mandatory part of their selection. I know I would.

This label is not my cup of tea... blame me, but it is what it is.

I only had a glass of this, mind you. It was decent, but lacking. Good, but wouldn't order it again.

Tasted at Laka Lono July 17, 2022
It's a bad sign when a rum is labeled "double aged," what does that mean??
The aroma - cedar
The taste - I am sad to report that this rum tastes like yarn.
Re-taste July 16, 2023 upgrading my rating to a 5/10 because it is quite nice in a lime Rickey
Revisited August 30 2023 in Dax from at Laka Lono Kill Devil rum club. still tastes like yarn.

Excelente Ron, para los que gusten de intensa presencia a vainilla. Para tomar solo con hielo.

Been wanting to try this one for a while and finally pulled the trigger. The nose is light but I do get a little vanilla and oaky scent. First sip has a citrus like bite that moves into the Sherry notes and finishes in a dry vanilla oak finish.

Amazing drop off from the 5+5. A lot of that has to do with this being a solera system expression, but a lot also has to do with a lack of care and craftsmanship. This left it tasting very young and not at all complex. Sherry finish is just a passing glance. Young, thin. with marginal smoothness, no complexity or finish and what do you have? Bad rum, that's what.

Compared to both Seleccion and 55 it is by far the poorest tasting. I would recommend avoiding it and going for one of the 2 others.

It is a bit dry and with an alcoholic taste in the mouth. It does not have much evolution, rather a flat taste
