Doorly's XO 6-Year rum

Doorly's XO 6-Year

Barbados | Aged | 43% ABV | Pot and Column Still Distilled

Produced in Barbados by master distiller Richard Seale, the rums in Doorly XO have been aged a minimum of 6 years before finishing in Olorosco sherry casks. The second maturation in sherry casks is rare and gives Doorly XO its unique flavour.

For me this is the classic good rum - very pleasant sweet aroma, tasty with sherry and wood tones. I like it. You will not make mistake with this rum.

This is the 40% review.
A good and natural rum, for sure. With a lot of potential for blended rums. If you like rums with woody profile and orange in the taste this one is for you.
I would prefer an older version of XO. But it's still a natural rum with nice flavours.
I like it especially for Daiquiri cocktail.
Ron Botran 1893 is a little bit better in my opinion and has also orange in the profile.

Since the new XO has 43% this rum became much better. I have to rate it with an 8.
The taste is still similar, but more concentrated and richer.

Smell: oak, vanilla, orange, some apricot, caramel, dry fruits
Taste initial: some orange, with oak, apricot, some caramel, wood with tannins
Taste middle/finish: burned sugar, vanilla, wood/barrel, orange, spice, tannins
Aftertaste: wood, orange

Sweetness: 2/5
Spice: 3/5
Fruit: 3/5
Mildness: 3.5/5
Value (27€): 3.5/5
Experience level: amateur

Good in a mixed drink but not to my taste as a sipper. Good rum for the price.

Very similar to the 8 year, maintaining all of the caramel, vanilla, and stone fruit characteristics that make Bajan rum so delicious - with a slight oaky overtone and a hint of sherry sweetness poking through. Excellent as a mixer or on the rocks. I honestly prefer this over the 12 year as I feel it has a more robust profile that's not overpowered by a whiskey-like oakiness.

This rum does not provide a lot of complexity a very simple rum with flavors of vanilla and caramel. It is a very easy to drink rum which I really like.

A very nice rum for the price. Had it on the rocks with a lime. Has an almost sweet flavor, and her robust flavor.

Coming back from hiking Red Rock Canyon on the west side of Las Vegas, I stopped at Total Wine and picked up one bottle each of Doorly's 12 Year and Foursquare Spiced. A bit further east on Charleston, I told myself WTF and finally got to stop at Frankie's Tiki Room. I already knew that they had Doorly's XO in their list of about 200 rums, which was my goal. Wonderful place and I tried this rum neat with a glass of cold water on the side for adding a few drops.

It is smooth with very little burn. I never even noticed the sherry barrel aging, which is wisely kept subtle. Compared to the other two new rums that I tried, the Foursquare Spiced won hands down mainly because I love cinnamon. But the Doorly's 12 Year was a major disappointment. This was quite a shock to me, so don't rely too much on all of these reviews. It is all about what YOU like!

By the way, this is now my cheapest acceptable neat sipper. Nothing offensive at all, but not quite thrilling either. And no added sugar! Total Wine has recently opened two stores fairly close to me, so now these rums are getting multiple repeat purchases.

This is now my fourth favorite rum from Barbados. My top two are no longer available: Foursquare ECS Zinfandel Cask and Doorly's 14 Year. This Doorly's XO is in a virtual tie with the 896 Rum aged 8 years, with a slight edge to that one. What I don't like about most Foursquare products is that the bourbon barrel aging tends to dominate. Not so in this case, which is probably why it is a repeat purchase and affordable daily sipper..

This one is also very similar to Dos Maders 5x3 aged in dry sherry casks. However, this one is better and cheaper than that one, hands down.

This rum is what I am looking for:
Not sweet, light, easy to drink, full of flavor and smooth.
The distillate reminds me of sugarcane juice, not molasses.
An excellent choice for any moment.
Highly recommended.

Quite nice english-style rum. Both okay for mixed drinks and sipping neat, but perfect.
Judging by its price - it has complex and rich taste. Hints of vanilla and cane sugar mollases follows the refreshing cinnamon trace. Aftertaste is oaky, with little alco afterburn

This is a solid rum and great for the price point but in my opinion, the 12 year blows it out of the water and is much more interesting. This is good though and worth trying.
