I had been hesitant to try this version of Doorly's after being disappointed with too much oak in their 12 Year and not enough to shine in their 8 Year. Today, I found a BIG bottle of this for dirt cheap with the BIG macaw on the front. At the equivalent of $10 US per fifth, I could not go wrong. Well, as a mixer, this one is just fantastic for the money! You also might as well save yourself some money over the 8 year since I have them both ranked next to each other. Nothing offensive at all here, but absolutely nothing memorable as a sipper. No other budget mixer can compare with this real rum!!!! And as usual from Richard Seale, no added sugar!
Not sure why but wasn’t expecting great things. Has some burnt caramel flavours and can burn a bit on the way down, some ice softened that though. Good middle of the road option
The nose is vanilla and oak, it smells really nice. It’s pretty smooth with a bit of bite at the back of the throat and mild burn. I think the flavour is nice, it tastes a bit of marmalade to me. Overall it’s just not very refined. I wouldn’t sip it, instead it works okay on cocktails but maybe not massively exciting.
Tento 5 ročný Doorlys z Barbadosu je pre mňa asi najslabší z celej série, ale to neznamená, že je zly. Príjemné pitie na celý večer, keď človek nechce, aby ho ráno bolela hlava
Not really much to say about this rum. A bit of dryness there & makes a great as a mixer. Not to strong, & very easy to drink. A good rum at a reasonable price. Though should be around $40 not $50.
Light Bajan Rum and had a fresh un-open bottle which require some breathing. Pleasant creme brulee and toffee aroma. Nose finish with aroma of chocolate cookie and light woody-ness.
On nose, light caramel with good fresh fruits flavor such as plum. Minty and woody yet taste drier compare to nose.
It's dry yet fruity on the finishing with fresh berries (strawberry).
Sugar: 0-5 GPL. Aromas and tastes of vanilla, oak, a bit of caramel and spices. A bit of a burn on the palate but nothing to make you cringe. There is a sweetness in the rum and I know that R.L. Seale or Doorly's doesn't add anything to their rums so it's a pleasant surprise. Well balanced rum that you could sip if there was nothing else but I suggest a piece of ice. It mixes really well and is well priced.
Worth having in your bar.
U Doorly's je hodně za málo peněz ale za cenu dostanete skvělý míchaný rum, tedy 6 hvězdiček. Upřímný, neslazený Barbados.
It’s mellow and inviting. An easy going spirit. A little hint of pepper spice.
"The initial taste is honey and vanilla withDoorly's Fine Old Barbados Rum 5 Years Aged review by the fat rum pirate a little oak. It never quite explodes with tropical fruit flavours."

Tonight's Rum: Dorly's Five Year Old from Barbados and I've even been to the distillery where this rum is made. The cork releases a mild Rum scent. Not overpowering at all. It has honey and orange to start, ending with a slight spice, perhaps allspice. When it hits your pallet, it's only slightly warm, still sweet like its bouquet. The taste is a bit dry and does maintain the orange essence along with a bit of apricot. On the back of the mouth, there's a slight heat that disappears slowly. A fruity taste is left behind. After a nice swallow, it's not the smoothest, not for a novice Rum drinker. A true Rummy would consider it fair, 6 out of 10. Neat, mixed with Coke or fruit juice, your choice is fine.
