This rum is inexpensive and provides a taste superior to the other big brands when a mixer is required. Gave my Rum&Coke an almost chocolate-y quality I quote liked. It's definitely not a sipper, though, so I can't recommend it on flavor and aroma alone.
clean and crisp rum with subtle hints of vanilla and coconut. Smooth with a refreshing finish
A couple guys commented above about how tasteless this rum is. I made a daiquiri with it, and all I could taste was the lime and sugar. So I enjoyed a nice lime soda.
I’ve bought this (shamefully) 3 times hoping for a fucking miracle. Can’t get drunk off it. No way there’s more than 10% alc. tastes like a sour cunt. Just makes u tired and sick. Foul. Do not drink it. Made the mistake again today. 1 hour n 11 shots in feel nothing but a fucking headache and sickness. I could drive a damn nascar rn, sober, pissed. I hope Don Q kills himself and dies slowly.
Vanilla, some grass. Lots of rocket fuel. Clear white, water colour. Some boozy florals. Mixing rum for sure.
I’ve been drinking this rum for about 25 years and there’s always a 1.75 L bottle in my shelf. The smoothest Puerto Rico Libre (Don Q, Coke, lime) are made with this rum. Let’s not talk about mojitos! Can’t do ‘em without this. There are a lot of rum cocktails that really call for a white rum that doesn’t outshine the other ingredients. When that’s the case, there’s no rum better than Don Q, there is none, there is none! 🎵
There is a sweetness but it is more that of young alcohol than any real defined aromas. .
"It is surprisingly “smooth” and quite easy to sip. The sweetness from the rum is very sugary rather than fruity. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

As far as basic white rums go, it's standard

Quick fact, in Puerto Rico, Don Q is the rum of choice. It taste like what folks think white rum taste like, not "vodka" (i.e. Bacardi Superior). It great for mixing, both frozen and non-frozen cocktails. It's not great for sipping or cooking with, but there are much better rums for that. It comes in a gazillion flavors (e.g. limon, coconut, etc.) and always costs less than $20, probably closer to $15.
If I had to pick a brand of rum from the brands with the widest selections of rums (i.e. Bacardi, Don Q, Cruzan, Malibu), I would definitely choose Cruzan over Don Q, but Don Q over Bacardi and Malibu depending on the flavor. Please note: alcohol content amongst flavors vary.
