Nearly as good as the older Gran Añejo version. The beauty in DonQ rum for me is not necessarily in the flavors that come from the barrel aging, though subtle and delicious, but in the column distilled spirit flavor itself which is noticeably a light and fruity tasting alcohol. Unadulterated and I believe on its way towards the top of many the rum drinkers' lists. Update: man that is good! A little water, time, and small sips... theres a little butteriness that reminds me of Santa Teresa 1796. This rum continues to surprise me and I've been drinking it for years. The more rums I taste the more I appreciate this when I return to it. 8 only bc it has a thinner body to it and i prefer more viscosity.

Quite a nice rum , a bit of a burn in the mouth but with honey and caramel tones. Dry but smooth , makes an excellent rum and coke , very enjoyable mixer.

Good sipping rum. Recommended for starters who do not want to spend a lot of money in a good rum.

I love this rum. It shows what real aged rum is, but doesn't go too far by adding a whole bunch of flavors, molasses and sugar to make a point. It mixes incredibly well and is decent to sip. The price point is beyond fair and the palate showcases a clear caramel butter scotch profile.

If you want a better rum for this for the money you're out of luck. You may be able to find a 'smoother' or more 'complex' rum, but I would bet you that the rum you're talking about has been watered down with a whole a bunch of stuff that shouldn't be found in rum. Also, I'd doubt it was aged nearly as long as this one and it'd probably be distilled to much higher proof to allow for greater profitability when ageing. shipping, etc.

If you live in the U.S., you'll also notice that some of the top bars in the country have picked up on how good of cocktails this rum can make. However, the best thing to do is get a bottle and some decent recipes to try out for yourself!

In Puerto Rico, Don Q is generally regarded as superior to Bacardí (which may not be saying much), but still I find it difficult to like this rum.

Flavor is not complex enough for sipping, but seem a little too much for mixing. Picked up a bottle in Puerto Rico, but truly prefer the Gold for mixing.

Decent for the price. Nose is medium rum. Taste is acceptable in shots. Decent bottle here for 19.99.

Gran Anejo is much better, but I can get by on this

A sippable rum that is fairly cheap. Flavors are definitely oriented towards cigar smokers. Very similar flavor, actually, to Flor de Cana.

I am spoiled by the Gran Anejo, but the Anejo is a fair sipper and good to mix.
