Diplomatico Reserva 8 40% (Venezuela)

Eye: Amber with copper tones

Nose: Opens with pronounced elements of grapefruit, old dry wood and molasses. It continues with weak honey, cotton and a hint of orange-zest, fat fish oil, and cheap praline that reminds me of light cooking chocolate. It is no immediate love, I can tell you that. It is so obviously colored, forced and juvenile. To me it smells like drink base.

Mouth: Could I be wrong? No, it even taste like drink base. It has that thin eau-de-vie taste that I dislike so much in a sipping rom. It is young and light and carries few own flavors. It is also short which is actually a forgiving feature in this case. The sweetness comes crawling after a while as do the vanilla. A weak buzz on the palate from the alcohol burn which is neither good or bad. Then a little caramel, honey and melted white sugar with faint hints of pear. That´s it folks! (30 minutes in some soot enters but it really doesn´t add anything.

Reaction: For some reason I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, there is no hope and it can´t be compared with anything I have rated so far. It doesn´t even evolve in the glass which is a first. It actually degrades in the glass which is a trademark of any bad product. As sipping rum it has to be the worst yet but that does not mean it isn´t great in a drink. I know nothing about that as I don´t usually enjoy rom based drinks.

sec, trop de sensation d'alcool en bouche et finalement on ne retient pas grand chose de la dégustation... il y a tellement mieux chez Diplomatico!!!

If this Diplomatico is a good representation of Venezuelan rum then I offer my house to this country to settle their next embassy ;-)
In Cuba we are always told we make the best rum in the world, right?... Wrong!
Diplomatico reserva is a nice yet sweet rum that can challenge may of the cuban brands. I have rated this one 7 as I find it a bit harsh in the afterburn. I also find the smell a bit ethanolish... Overall I like this one as a sipper and for about ~38CAD in the Ontario, Canada marketplace is a much superior deal to others like the Matusalem solera 15.

This younger brother of the Reserva Exclusiva is by no means an inferiour rum. It is somewhat less sweet, more dry but still very nice to sip!

This one has a lot going on from the barrel aging but one would wish it was in that barrel just a little longer. This is Much better than the Anejo version. It has all the great flavors you would expect mainly I got chocolate, butterscotch, some vanilla. I finished this one rather quickly so overall a great product but for a little more a 12 year would totally eliminate the alcohol presence which was hidden greatly below the flavor but detectable. This one has a small amount of added sugar per testing but not as massive as Exclusiva.

This is a nice rum for the price, but there are others much easier to drink, like RZ23, Don Papa, and of course the Diplo Reserva Exclusiva.

suprisingly sharp alcohol when drinking straight, for "up to 8y" old its bit strange, on the otherside taste is ok, what i loved with this rum was addition of coke. Something i would do again and again and again. Also price gave +1 to the final score.
