Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva

A very sweet rum, hits the nostrils with scents of vanilla and sugar. Not very oaky due to the copper pots. Did a taste test with Ron Zucapa 23 with some family and most preferred this, except for those who are whiskey drinkers. A fine rum.

Diplomatico is a classic and good choice to enter in the word of old Rum.

I like rums with sweet tase and vanilla flavour. If your are the same dont miss this one.

This run is very sweet, but makes an excellent sipping rum. Notes of brown sugar and caramel, with a smooth finish. I have found (to my horror) that mixing it with two parts Mt Gay reduces the sweetness and makes a wonderful sipping rum.

Yes, this rum is very good but it might be too sweet for some. I tend to enjoy sweeter rums but even for me it’s too much. Nice dessert after dinner but after one glass you wanna switch to something more serious. As other reviewers point out, it’s on the edge of being a rum liquor.

Smell of vanilla on the nose, rich toffee on the palate with very light alcohol afterburn. Very mild charcoal ending which tastes a bit artificial after a while.

Again, it is not a bad rum and I did enjoy drinking it but I will not get another bottle soon.

As above. Was ok, but would spend 10 euros more for a XO (plantation for example)

Smell: Just opened bottle – very rich sweet syrup, molasses mixed with brown and normal sugar, honey, bananas, coconuts, fresh coffee, leather, floral oak, lilac / flower bouquet. Complex and dense - a huge range or aromas really well blended with each other but there is a LOT of added sugar definitely.

Taste: Quite sweet (due to the added sugar) yet very well mixed up and there is some complexity. Slightly burned brown sugar, old bananas, sweet black tea, honey, some pineapple, slight clean oak notes – maybe too sweet at the finish which is quite long lasting.

It is a great sweet rum TBH but just too sweet for my taste, no matter how well it is blended.

I ocassionally bought this one when good price occurs (I was told millions of Diplo's are getting sold every year) in my "early period". Had it several times during my rum development, the taste is actually still solid for me, nothing special and mindblowing, just a good commercial alcohol.
