Smooth and sweet for the nose with loads of vanilla and caramel notes. Taste is the same as the smell. Fine sipper but maybe too sweet for my taste.

I'll be honest I've only in the last month began sipping rum rather than using it in cocktails. My first sippers was the Ron Zacapa solera 23, and el dorado 12 year. I don't know if its actually too sweet or if it just seems to sweet because of the absence of the alcohol burn. I'm not a seasoned liquor drinker and I couldnt belive that there is 40 percent alcohol in this. Tastes more like 27 percent like in disorono. Anyway, super smooth, not alot of big giant leathery/spice tastes like the zacapa. I will finish the bottle and won't buy again for a while, but will definitely recommend it as a perfect starter to sipping rum. I drank it neat in a whiskey glass.

Very tasty but a bit heavy after a couple pours. Worth buying

I enjoyed the classic rum flavors of vanilla and molasses, but found the sweetness a bit cloying.

The aroma is subtle. The drink is subtle in a refined way. The woody and caramel notes come in gently. Then, the spice flavors enter in a bold manner. You can tell this is made by men with a singular purpose. The finish lingers with that spicy flavor that reminds you of a turbulent Caribbean Sea.

Following a legal dispute with discount retailer Aldi which owns the rights to the name Diplomat for its brandy, this rum is sold as Ron Botucal Reserva Exclusiva in Germany.
It's smooth and mellow with a full flavor. Definately the best sipping rum you can get for the price...
