Diplomatico Ambassador Selection is a limited edition rum crafted from 100% still pot rums and aged for a minimum of 12 years. Like its counterparts, the rum originates from Venezuela and is aged in ex-bourbon casks. The rum has a high strength and does not contain any sweeteners, caramel or other additives which means it does not require chill filtration.

This rums comes in a beautiful stone box and the cork actually has real gold in it. The presentation is stunning.
Taste: candied pecans, baking spices, sherry, molasses, black pepper, and a balanced sweetness with medium viscosity.
Con: I think it is overpriced because there are only bottles of rum that are comparable for a much lower price.
But it is a special rum.
I like diplomatico rums. This one has been in my sights for a long time. But I got dissapointed.
Smell is very woody, but tastes very similar to familia version, but not worth the money. In time, when familia version was not on the market, it made sense. But not now.

To be honest i love the presentation of this rum, the shape of the bottle, the letters, the box in which it comes, in short an excellent presentation. However is not the best rum i've ever tasted, it has a high alcoholic impact, it tastes a bit insipid for me, a bit spicy and a bit dry too; but it has a good aroma, being able to distinguish tobacco, and some dried fruits. In addition it also has a very pleasing color to the eye.
That's why i rate it with an 8, which proves to be a highly recommended rum, however the price of this rum is too high compared to its true value.
-2cl Muster-
Beautiful rich amber with copper reflections in the glass.
In the nose very restrained and not at all intrusive but not boring. Mild and delicate burnt caramel is deglazed with freshly squeezed grape must. Mushrooms and wild herbs gathered on a rainy day are added and finished with a pinch of pepper and clove powder.
Stimulatingly delicate and mouth-filling on the palate. The grape must caramel brings a great tart-sweet balance to the tongue. Harmoniously alternating flavors, caramel, wine grapes and other white berries, vanilla, some nutmeg, lie nicely draped in an old wine barrel.
In the finish, the flavors linger long, the wild herbs and a little bit of smoke join in.
A super balanced rum that needs time to breathe, a long diplomatic negotiation.
But is it worth the money? That everyone must decide for themselves. For rum fetishists, well-heeled and as a deluxe bar content

It is not for beginner drinkers, because the high ABV can mess with your perception, because it can be very astringent. Otherwise the flavor is very big on sherry, very much more than the Single Vintage editions which can be more fruity and whisky-like, or Reserva Exclusiva, which is more mainstream experience with vanilla tones.

After enjoying the single vintage I thought this would be a top 10. Sadly for me I found it too heavily aged in the PX barrels. I usually like PX second aged rums like Dos Maderos 5&5, but this might have been aged a bit too long.i immediately reminded me of Ron Navazos, aged for 24 years and way to long in Oloroso casks, just overpowering not even rum anymore. Lots of better rums in the $50-$150 range for me $250 was too much unless you love aged sherry. Look at my top 10 list for better options, and if you get a chance for a tot try it but don’t buy the cow.
