Perfect agricole aroma, rum of darker color, bitter, smooth and woody taste... I love this one!

Gouté en Martinique

Visited the Depaz distillery while vacationing in Martinique. Nice distillery tour followed by a full open tasting bar. Depaz Grande Reserve XO has a pretty nice and sturdy bottle and label design. Traditional dry Rhum Agricole flavors complemented with plenty of grass, floral notes and strong oak to your nose and palate. Mild and very short burn at the end. Rhum Agricole lovers can add 2 points to the score.

Aroma is firstly sweet and later fruity.
Taste is full, round and lined by spicyness. Tones of brandy, oak and vanilla finish.

This one is much alike the Clement XO. Smooth, nice and subtile with rich flavours and only overruled by Clement XO.
It starts to get quite hard to get it in the old bottle with its wooden etui (have 3). Instead there is a more common bottle with a blue label. I have tried to get an answer from Depaz if it’s the same rhum, but no answer yet.

September 2019;
It seems like the two different bottles of Grande Reserve XO are two different Agricoles. The one in the image bottle (same as the one I’ve reviewed) should after what I’ve read contain distillates that’s at least 12yo and the one with the blue label is a blend of distillates that’s between 8 and 10yo.
So some of the reviews here doesn’t review the bottle at the image.

Honey yellow amber in the glass.
In the nose, wow, freshly picked white fruits and more fruits, yes a huge basket full of fruits, really fresh and tasty. Some wood and subtle smoke are also included.
On the palate, the whole basket of fruit dances over your tongue. The wood notes are subtly in the background.
In the finish beautifully long and fruity.
An outstanding agicole, soft and supple. For beginners who want to immerse themselves in the world of the Agricole-Rhum and of course connoisseurs. 8.5

My personal best agricole so far. Very warm and spicy ( pepperish spicy ), maybe even cognac like, but also little sweet and woody.

Virkelig fantastisk duft. Jeg er normalt ikke til agrocole. Men denne virker lovende.
