This is an overproof rum, so lets not mess about it smells like it will kill you !
On the nose burnt chocolate and dark iak wood .
Drink it and wow it tastes like a thick rum treacle which is truly awesome and has loads of funk flavours . A Demerara delight, the only downside is that it's very rarely available in the UK , I can imagine in a cocktail it's a knockout .
When it comes to overproof, funky rums, this is in a class of its own. Fantastic.
This is a rum to have and use in tiki cocktails calling for 151
So good...so many categories wrapped up into one bottle, so much flavor! I will miss it, and lament when there is no more left on the planet. Lemon Hart is the classic floater to original tiki drinks, also an unsubstitutable ingredient in other recipes.
When it comes to overproof mixers, this is my first choice for most Tiki drinks, especially a Mai Tai or a Planter's Punch. It combines all the characteristics of what you expect of a dark rum: Smokiness, woodiness, smell and taste of dry fruits, some hidden sweetness and a complex finish - and of course some alcohol. Add some drops of water and you can even sip it. It's little brother of 40% ABV does not even get close to it, seems more like a cousin twice removed...Grab one while you can, there are supply difficulties again in Europe atm...
One of the ‘must have’ rums to keep on hand. Very similar to Hamilton which is also excellent. Side by side though the Lemon Heart has a bit more depth in it’s complexity.
This is the quintessential floater in tiki drinks! no other rum can replace it, except maybe for some of Velier`s or Silver Seal`s heavier demeraras. It has a very punchy flavor, full bodied and strong, perfect to boost up any cocktail.
Wonderful dark smoky flavor. First time i Tried it pure . .!. It reminded me oft some stachelbeer palinka from hungary... Realy a gold remembering. Emptied a bortle, now my store doesnt habe it anymore:( found out about 1\4 - 1\5 pussers 40% mixed Ingo goslings comes close in a mixed drink.
I have only had this twice in my life and I would buy a bottle right now if it was in front of me. It has an overproof burn but has a smooth taste to it as well. Great to mix with ginger beer.
The tiki legacy of this rum seems to continue despite multiple distribution issues. This rum has heat and a delicious flavor that is true to it's demerara roots. While too strong to drink neat for any of us mortals, this rum can really turn it up to 11 in most cocktails. If you want to give this rum a shot, try it out in several of don the beachcombers old recipes.
love it as a floater in tiki drinks. A must have in the cabinet.
Hefty banana and caramel on the nose. Not too much burn as some other ratings imply. First taste brings sweet notes of apricot and a very toasty oak to the forefront. Very flavourful for a 151. Finishes out with a superb, lingering burn. Tingling all along the tongue. Hardly needs any mix given the flavours compounding throughout. Love it!
This is the last word, as far as I’m concerned, on commercially available 151s. Don’t fuck with it.
Lemon Hart 151 is the first overproof rum I have ever tasted. I acquired this bottle in Nova Scotia (as it is not available in my area) based on the high ratings it gathers on rumratings.com. While I was encouraged to add water before sipping on this rum I had to try it neat first to get the full experience of this rum. The colour of this rum is a dark almost reddish tone which by itself puts it in a select company. On the nose this rum smells fruity and the alcohol does not overtake the rum as one might expect. First sip, WOW, you can feel the higher percentage of alcohol but in a good way and I compare it to a nice Tawny Port on steroids. This will not be my go to rum but I certainly will enjoy it every now and then. I can now appreciate and agree with the ratings this rum has been getting. Well done. 👍
This rum has only one job, and it does it extremely well. It's the perfect blast of flavor and strength for the classic tiki cocktail.
Whoowee. This stuff will really knock your socks off! The only rum to use when 151 is called for. So much flavor packed in to every punch.
I get the hints of toffee and molasses, but mostly this is a mixer for my tiki drinks. I also used this as the base for my homemade allspice dram, which made my Three Dots and a Dash my signature tiki drink!
Intense burnt sugar flavors are packed in to this rum. I would sip it on its own to get that mouth filling creme brûlée taste.
Lemon heart 151 It’s great for floaters. But it’s also I have has lots of dark rum flavor is
Big and rich, with gunpowder like quality. Essential for many a tiki drink, especially when making the classic (original) Zombie. This is powerful rum, and with great flavor of molasses / toffee. If you desire for your bar to be tiki-style, you need this rum almost by default, lest Mr. Donn Beach turns in his grave when you make a zombie... Spookie :P
My local store finally got this in on my request. It does not disappoint! Aroma of molasses and spice with just a bit of alcohol. On the tongue it's molasses, cooking spice and smoky wood with a powerful but pleasant heat. A bit more of the smoky wood in the aftertaste than I'd like, but this is not a sipper and it's presence in tiki drinks more than makes up for that shortcoming.
Wow. I really wasn't expecting the new LH 151 to be as flavorful as it is. I really enjoy it, and in a shoot-out with the classic LH 151, it's smoother, less harsh, and while it has a bit less of the demerara note, it has a really consistent flavor that lasts. Tremendous.
Amazing 151 Demerara. Must have for any collection. Unlike any 151 out there.
