Despite "AGED RUM" being so dominant on the label, this is only a 2-year old rum.
When you allow for this and factor in the very reasonable price this is very much a case of getting what you paid for, if not a little bit more.
The nose is subdued and not complex.
The rum is actually more smooth than expected for only a 2-year old.
The mouth feel is neither good nor bad and there is not much for lingering taste.
Drinkable on its own, however likely better suited as a mixer for most.
Certainly worthy of being included in the liquor cabinet for mixed drinks.
People like the Cruzan name due to their flavored rums for mixing; this is a great way to use the Cruzan product for alternative party drinks like rum and cola. It's a solid rum for the price.
Bargain price and good with coke. Always have a bottle handy.
This rum is great for mixing. It has a good price point and doesn't stand out in a tiki drink.
It's ok, definitely fare FARE from the worst I've tasted but not the best. As fare as good aged rumx go this is a solid benchmark. I'd definitely add this to my collection as a good and solid standard.
Rhum a petit prix 10$ us, meilleur que le bacardi. Excellent pour mélanger dans un rhum and coke. Goute beaucoup l'alcool, rien de complexe. Il faut mieux miser sur le Cruzan single barrel.
Best in mixed drinks or my wife’s rum cake. Somewhat variable in taste, bouquet and finish, at least to my palate. Decent value for the price.
Bought a few bottles of this at the price club on St Thomas (can't remember the name), cheap, cheap, cheap. It sure added to the fun on that trip
Not the most smooth, not the most refined, not the most interesting, but still smooth and enjoyable. And at its price, that's more than I had bargained for.
I will always have a bottle on hand for everyone that likes mixed rum drinks. A very good value. Rather light in color and taste but I would not sip it anyhow. Mixed with most any fruit or cola and it stands out without overpowering. If I compare it with others used only for mixing it would be a 9.
Good mixer. Not quite a good sipper.
Get the 1.75 for $18 when your mixing on a budget. Gold virgin island rums are pretty sparse but called out for classic tiki drinks such as Nui Nui, Penang Afrididi, Vicious Virgin, Port Au Prince.
Preferably use Cruzan’s Diamond or Single Barrel but this will suffice for a party or when you’ve already dulled your senses. As always fresh fruits go a long way in bumping up the cocktail.
Agree with the others so far, really good choice for a different tasting rum and coke; especially for the price. Tried it first in St. Thomas and brought back a bottle thinking it wasn't available stateside. I clearly just never noticed it because it isnt hard to find at all haha. Awesome value and for the price, you can't not give it a try if you're a rum and coke guy.
I have since moved onto better rums such as Doorly's 5 yr ($20 for a 1.75 ltr) for such purposes but unless you are in a state where Total Wine has liquor you are out of luck.
This rum's best attribute is the price. Mixes well enough and widely available. Not for sipping though.
Your basic rum. No great wafts of baking spice. Not a Jamaican fruit bomb. No sweet notes of sherry. Just a plain old fashioned rum kept in a refill barrel for a couple of years or so. Youthful, but a solid performer if you don't expect too much from it. Good for mixing, but also good to sip even if it's one dimensional with it's caramel and vanilla.
For many years I've held the opinion that this bottling is ideal as a bar's standard gold/aged rum. Nothing special, just an American rum that is and inexpensive & decent.
A value mixer not a lot happening in the flavour profile initially. Its quite astringent on the nose, there is a bit of what I believe is attributed as vanilla happening when it sits on the palate. A high end 5 verging on a 6
This is my favorite cheap rum. Far better than Captain Morgan, Pirate Bay, Burnets, and Bacardi. The 5/10 says it all, "Easily consumable in a bind"
This rum is light in body and in taste. Like drinking straight alcohol. Needs to be heavily mixed to be tolerable.
Unfortunately I never tried this brand before they were bought by Beam Suntory. I have heard that it was better befoe the sale. At any rate not terrible as a mixer but not for sipping. My biggest complaint is the vanilla extract flavor. But if your going to a party were you just need to bring something not a bad choice. Be sure to bring the Coke as well.
I found this fairly neutral flavour wise and somewhat insipid. Was definitely not to my taste on the rocks and ultimately mixed with something to mask the flavour.
