Angostura 1919 8-Year rum

Angostura 1919 8-Year

Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV

Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.

The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

Pleasantly mild, but nothing to stir the soul or tempt you back for more.

Been looking for this exemplaire of Angostura spirit for a while and I'm not disappointed.
Charming on nose; smooth, oily, on target strong on the palate. Fruity, ecsotic, sugar canie ). Addictive aftertaste.
Minus one point because it is 8yo.
Minus second point due to nostalgia for it's older brother )

As the app suggests, this sums it up very well. Drunk it OK, but would not buy it again. I would rather go for something else. Was maybe a bit too sweet for my likings with no aromatic aftertaste. I think I'm becoming very picky 🙄

At first I got excited. A bit of a strong smell but slower taste. Drink was not bad, not perfect.

It’s a sipper. I’ve finally found one at the local bottle shop!

Australia’s a hot country, though, and we need to throw back long drinks to cool off, so I am putting it with coke.

But taste-wise, there’s no need to! It most emphatically does not need dilution. It is smooth as!

I’m no stranger to Caribbean rum, but I have had no better than Angostura 1919!

(It says on the label that a fire in the government rum store charred the barrels of 1919 vintage Trinidadian rum in Port of Spain in 1932. Well, they drank the rum. They liked, and have singing it ever since; and the proof is in the tasting!)

Aroma is very weak, with vanilla and sugar tones. Taste is a bit burning with wood, vanilla and slight hint of orange. Aftertaste is short and again weak.

Okay for an 8, but not meeting the standard. Nice notes, but a bit on the unrefined side. I'd mix this in a higher end cocktail.

Nothing to write home about - but nice enough to sip

Very thin mouthfeel without enough flavors to make up for it. Maybe usable as a mixer, but ultimately very forgettable. A disappointment.
