Angostura 1919 8-Year rum

Angostura 1919 8-Year

Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV

Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.

The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

Still one of the best noses I've had on a rum, just a rush of rich vanilla spice, with hints of honey, tobacco, and oak. Unfortunately a bit one-note on the palate, just lots of sweet vanilla. Definitely very smooth, but not as complex in the imbibing as the smell would imply.

Bon rhum léger et facile à boire. Apprécier du plus grand nombre.

This rum is a good base for drinks but could also go for straight up on rocks. Taste becomes better with dark chocolate!

A very notable smooth aged rum , balanced , not too sweet , not too rough. It would be 7/10 if the angostura 7 wasn't 10 euros cheeper

A bit boring, but still smooth and balanced... alcohol well hidden. In my opinion better as mixer than saute.

To be fair, this was one of my favourites, when I started drinking rum, around 12 years ago. Slightly harsh, taste of vanilla and caramel with a little afterburn. Slightly expensive for an 8 year old, but not overly expensive. Over the years, however, I’ve found numerous rums of a similar price that are so much better than this one. Kirk and Sweeney 12 yr old, for example, is normally cheaper, but is on a different level.

Angostura rums have a nice flavor profile but I just wish they didn´t add sugar to them. This one has 13g/L so not the worst but it would been better without any.

A little too strong of alcohol smell and too much after burn for me. There are a lot of rums that are better and a lot cheaper. Good but not worth the price.
