Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV
Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.
The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

Decent rum, some nice notes of vanilla and arrack but it feels like something is missing. Great texture and smooth though.
After getting a bottle as a gift and enjoying the mellow flavour, I was surprised at what good value this gem was. Very reasonably priced and just a delight on the tongue. It has become a holiday ritual to buy a bottle and I love sharing it with friends and their delight as it improves the taste of ice.
I found it almost too fruity... Not overpowering but, something was just "off" in the flavour for me. Its good quality with not bad qualities but, the flavour just wasn't for me. Many would most likely enjoy this quality rum.
It starts out light with the essence of sugar cane then followed by a full and rich explosion of flavors.
Angostura 1919 40% Trinidad
Eye: Thin gold
Nose: It introduces itself as a sober-minded, level-headed, fruity, sweet and flowery rum with scents of custard, pineapple, almond flakes, sawdust from silver birch, ripe exotic fruit compote, butter, panna cotta, fat green shoots and banana liquor. Very pleasant but also rather predictable, uninteresting on the verge of being boring. Still refreshing and somewhat appealing.
Mouth: Restrained and consistent with some well hidden qualities. It puts on an almost neutral impression but some flavors are taking the lead, these are mango, cinnamon, hazel nut and almonds. There are also some side tracks with citrus that lingers throughout the whole palate. It is quite tasty actually and offers a consonance of sweetness, flora and fruit. A little oak contributes to the finish which is medium long. I like it but it is too …low key and careful to leave a lasting impression.
Reaction: The smell is nice, nothing to complain about. On the palate it is nice, nothing to complain about. Even the color is nice with nothing to complain about. The question is: if I am going to team up with this one for a whole evening, what are we going to talk about? Thumbs up for this easy pleaser. The price is also right.

Tasted: 2016, in a Riedel Sommelier Cognac XO glass at room temperature.
Oak initial nose but then fruits emerge such as orange and banana. Finish is more oaky with wisps of orange.
Semi sweet, undescibeable tase and nose... more like flower and nutmeg nose and taste. Not for everyone.
This is one of the smoothest easiest drinking sipping rums out there. The flavor has the perfect level of sweetness with a hint of caramel. I would recommend drinking it neat which will be smooth and warm on the palate with little to no bite, the sweetness and subtle flavors tend to come on the finish. I do sometimes use a single ice cube with this, which tends to remove much of the warmth and actually increases the sweetness and opens up the flavors a little more. This is not a mixing rum as the flavors are too subtle and the intricacies of the rum are lost completely to the mix.

There is a little “oak and smoke” and a very small scent of fruit.
"The rum is very smooth with notes of oak, cocoa and vanilla. Perhaps a little banana but very subtle."
