Angostura 1919 8-Year rum

Angostura 1919 8-Year

Trinidad and Tobago | Aged | 40% ABV

Angostura 1919 rum is produced in Trinidad by blending a combination of light and heavy molasses distilled rums. These rums spend at least 8 years aging in American oak bourbon barrels.

The name Angostura "1919" refers to the event in 1932 when Angostura's distillery was destroyed by fire. Miraculously, a handful of barrels filled with rum from 1919 survived and were purchased by J.B. Fernandes - the master blender of Fernandes Distillers.

I really enjoy this rum, don't have it very often but it's very smooth over ice, with a nice mix of flavours that come out through the spices. Light in colour good on flavour

The 1919 is good, no doubt. A little sweet, a little harsh (call it tangy). But hey, it's affordable. I prefer to sip “up”, not rocks. I suspect a little sugar added, but that's just me. Good vanilla, oak finish. Go ahead, tap the Admiral!

8,5b 👏

On the sweet side, rainforest on the nose and in mouth green banana and honey. Scrappy finish

On the nose I can feel oak and leather, maybe a hint of a citrus fruits, but barely recognizable, on the palate the rum is smooth, light, with oaky, leatbery profile, hint of vanilla and a bitter twist at the end. The aftertaste is spicy and nutty, but nothing I would remember the rum for. After Angostura 5 and 7, which were lively in taste, I expected something more sexy. Solid rum, which might appeal to whisky lovers.
