Stingray Spiced

According to the label on the bottle, Stingray Spiced Rum is "infused with exotic spices such as Vanilla, Cinnamon and Almond". Apparently when it was being produced it was distilled in Texas using Florida sugar cane molasses.

It has a golden straw color...a little lighter than apple cider in color. A nice aroma in the bottle and in the snifter. I seem to detect the cinnamon. The flavor is rather mild for a spiced rum I do detect the vanilla at the outset and the almond becomes more apparent in the finish. From what I have read online the rum is aged very briefly...only a few months...before bottling. Probably just enough for the color but not enough for any appreciable change in flavor or added complexity. It is 70 proof (35% ABV) so it is slightly less potent than typical rums. Overall a good usable mixing rum that has the potential of being so much better. Very inexpensive yet good quality.

Sadly that potential may not be approached because I cannot find any indication this rum is still being produced. The web address on the label is no longer working and the name is now associated with a Texas distillery that does not currently produce rum. So apparently this brand is defunct. The label indicates the rum was "selected and bottled by JEM Beverage Co in Carrolton, TX" but that name links to Western Son Distillery in Pilot Point, TX. Different company altogether? Perhaps not since their bio indicates they WERE located in Carrolton, TX so maybe they changed names at some point. Regardless, Stingray Spiced Rum is not listed on that website nor can I find it anywhere else except old links.

So unless someone has information to the contrary I feel it is safe to assume that Stingray Spiced Rum is another lost rum.

A shame.
