Visited the Habitation Saint-Etienne (HSE) Distillery while vacationing in Martinique. Spectacular unlimited full open tasting bar. Distillery is in a different location than the tasting bar. HSE 2004 Sherry Fino & Oloroso Cask Finish was EUR 48 at the tasting bar. Bright golden color. Very nice and sturdy bottle with a splendid label design. Strong sherry flavors merged with traditional high end Rhum Agricole to the nose and palate. Quite a strong burn at the end.

45% ABV. Aged 6 years. Hmm… cherry on the nose. Very dry, almost whisky-like palate. Finishes with a creamy kind of finish, with a hint of sherry. I'm thinking HSE is having just a little too much fun with all these cask finishes...

8-, 7+

Being an agricole rum this HSE Sherry Finish is by default less sweet than molasses rums with sherry finish. This put the HSE 2004 Sherry finish in a betwixt and between situation, stucked between 2 differents worlds.
