I bought the 2009 version from the distillery whilst on honeymoon in 2015. It is a very complex rum that may well be more than my simple palate can deal with, but even I still enjoyed it. Slight vanilla and spice with a lovely smooth finish.

The Chamarel distillery is only 9 years old yet produces some amazing rum. I get a lot of pepper and grass on the nose. For a single barrel I find the 45% alcohol a bit on the low side, but it still leaves a powerful impression - especially if you let it sit for 5-10 minutes in the glass and swirl it properly in your mouth.
It is not quite worth the price tag which is more a consequence of scarcity, but it is a very good rum. And I imagine that in 10-20 years time Chamarel will be able to send out bottles which can compete with the very best agricoles out there.

good one, but way too expensive compared to the concurrence.
it's a good aged rhum, sweet, with very good notes.

I already had the XO at home and wanted to upgrade for a more complex Rhum. This one is really well balanced and is 100% double distilled. Alcohol rate is close ton100% on 2008 and around 96% on 2009. I personally tired the 2009 and some say that the 2008 is slightly more balanced. The 2009 would be slightly more sugary although the making process remains the same. Excellent smell and verybrich and complex when you smell it. It really tastes as good as it smells too and it's Not as dry like the XO. The colour is amber and the aftertaste lasts for sooooo long with slight notes of spices. Truly a good choice. If I had to compare it to another high grade rum I would say zacapa XO is the closest I've tried so far
