Since I liked their 1919 rum, I finally bought a bottle of this to give it a try. I had planned on driving 40 miles to test one ounce at a bar, but those tests only rule out rums that I would never buy. One also cannot adequately judge a rum from just one ounce. I am running out of good cheap rums to buy, so this was a good $58 gamble.

This is a semi-dry rum from Trinidad and has 17 gpl of added sugar. The aroma is of leather. The taste is of fruit and leather. The after taste is the same. It is darker than their 1919 and the flavors are more pronounced. Is it worth another $22 per bottle more than their 1919? That has yet to be seen when the bottle is finally empty a few months down the road. At least it will last for more than 4 months because it has less than 20 gpl of added sugar.

Oaky, a bit harsh and a bit sour. Interesting and different rum. But let it breathe for a long time before the first sip. A liked it but this rum is different in a good way.

Love this rum but the only negative is that it is a bit too sweet. Excellent flavor profile, with hints of tobacco, leather, vanilla. Delicious rum but more for dessert.

So far I have found only two rums (Vizcaya VXOP & Plantation XO 20th Anniversary) that I will consume straight. This one comes oh so close to being the third. The 1824 has a wonderful aroma in the bottle and the flavor is very good...a mild sweetness with vanilla...but there's just a little bitter in there that brings it just below a 9 and sipping status for me. [NOTE: For the record, even though I've rated the Angostura 1919 an 8 as well I believe the 1824 is indeed better...an 8.85 as opposed to an 8.00)

So close....

Color is a nice Dark Amber. Legs are thin but seem to cling longer than you would expect. The nose is of sweet molasses, vanilla, and butterscotch. The taste is drier than the nose but still has predominate flavors of molasses and vanilla. The oak of the barrel is definitely present. A second sip brings out a bit of leather and tobacco. The finish is a bit hot with lots of spicy notes. Leaves me wanting more. A very complex rum. A keeper for sure.

Tasted at Laka Lono on 8/28/22, #4 of 5 of my Angostura flight on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Totally recommend tasting these as a flight.
Aroma: mandarin orange and toffee
Taste: strong and delicious
5/5 bottles on my passport converts to 9/10 bottles here

Взех го за 50€ , добра сделка за 12 ром. Страхотен на мирис и вкус. Не смесвайте, а пийте чисто!

A golden spicy rum.
You get apricots and some floral notes on the nose.
As you taste a deep earthy aromatic note, I would dare to say spicy. A little bit of sweetness just to remind you it is a rum.
Different from anything I have tasted. You even get some grassy herbal notes.
Defenetly a sipper.

Tasted at Laka Lono on 11/28/18. Pours brown in color. Candy. Great nutty and boozy flavor. Harsh finish as with all Angostura products. Leaves legs in the glass. Overall yummy.

Very good Qpr rum, very balanced, alcohol is not grumpy and aromas are perfectly integrated. 7.5 pts now.
