Angostura 1824 rum is a blend of rums aged for at least 12 years in oak barrels. The aged rums are blended, re-casked, and upon maturity hand-drawn for bottling.

This rum is named and crafted in honor of Dr. Johann Siegart's founding of Angostura house in the city of Angostura, Venezueala in 1824. Angostura 1824 rum production is now based in Trinidad.

It is a dark rum with distinct cherry nose, but also develops into light floral whisky on the tongue.

I enjoyed this rum although I generally like rums to be a bit more sweet. For the difference in cost, I still prefer the Diplomatico Reserva but this is a nice change of pace from my normal selections.

I used to drink 1919 and I moved this one for sipping as I find 1919 a bit on the harsh side. So now I mix with 1919 and have 1824 neat. I enjoy mostly around Christmas season when all those smells and notes of the festive season (like that of the Christmas fruit cake) are in vogue.

I’m told the Oak cask this is aged in are old Scotch barrels, and there’s a hint of peat in the finish. An excellent, smooth and moderately complex Rum, a solid keeper

Too much wood and too much spices for me. Oak feels very strong, some honey and spices. Not one of the smoothest rums.

Nice nose with caramel but a bit too much wood. Good colour on the pour. Didn’t like the taste and a bit too much burn for my liking. Too much oak, tobacco and burnt tastes for my liking.

A trecut ceva timp de cand am terminat sticla ))) dar in niciun caz nu l am uitat ) desi corect ar fi fost sa descriu in timp ce il degust cum fac de obicei.

Un rom gustos, piele, lemn,zahar brun, ceva fructat in fundal, si .. cacao, cacao , cacao ..
practic ma duce cu gandul la un dictador 12 din punct de vedere al dezechilibrului in arome dar in care aroma predominanta e cacaoa nu cafeaua, sau la zacapa 23 cu mult , mult mai putin zahar, as prefera pe acesta oricand in locul lui zacapa 23 chiar daca zacapa e mai stratificat si pare mai complex...

It's been a while since I finished the bottle))) but I have by no means forgotten it) although it would have been correct to describe it while tasting it as I usually do.

A tasty rum, leather, wood, brown sugar, something fruity in the background, and .. cocoa, cocoa, cocoa ..
basically it makes me think of a Dictator 12 from the point of view of the imbalance in aromas but in which the predominant aroma is cocoa not coffee, or Zacapa 23 with much, much less sugar, I would prefer this one instead of Zacapa 23 even if zacapa is more layered and seems more complex...
