Makes lovely rum punch! Best to use for cocktails I think rather than sip it.
Nice nose but not a real sipper, a bit overpowering on the alcohol side. A great blend of sweets with just a bit of spice. The malty background adds the perfect touch making this a great value in my bar. Have not put it in a blender yet but expect it to add a different taste when replacing spiced rums.

Very nice amber with mahogany reflections in the glass.
Very woody and fruity on the nose. A lovely combination of sweet, overripe fruit and tart components wood, resin, tannins and other tannins, leather and tart caramel.
On the palate, fruit pulls away in front and dominates. Papaya, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, lychee leave little room for caramel, wood and resin. A hint of vanilla hovers briefly over the tongue.
In the finish, the fruits are then gone first, leaving behind resinous woods with chocolate coating.
Wow, what a rum for little money. A great bayan, fruity, light, full of life ! For beginners in the world of unsweetened rum, connoisseurs and pirates. 7+
Good rhum, spicy in mouth, clear final, perfect with friends.
Nice warm aroma. Coconut with vanilla, cinnamon, allspice. A little medicinal tasting at first, but it fades into a slightly bitter chocolate and possibly, tobacco. The burn is fairly short. I'll probably use it as a premium mixer.
I found these in an Oregon liquor store at $10 for a 750ml bottle. I bought six. Holiday gift buying for friends is done!
Lovely as a smooth rum super probably better as mixer . .decent flavour on the palette
I will always have a soft spot for Cockspur after my surfing adventures in Barbados in the late 70’s early 80’s. But with that said Cockspur has not held up with Mt Gay and Doorly’s (now four square). The 12 was ok but Ron Abuelo 12 from Panama is much better as is Doorly’s 12 and Mt Gay XO. I wanted to love it but not worth my money.
My first review. I like this rum because it is not overly sweet, but has all the rum flavor you could ask for. It is smooth enough to sip on the rocks, yet inexpensive enough to allow mixing in drinks without grimacing. Found it being discontinued at the liquor store and scored a case.

"Cockspur 12-year rum review by TheFatRumPirate"
It is a very fruity rum.
"The rum has flavours of tropical fruit, it bursts with flavour. There is no nasty aftertaste or burn. It can be sipped, mixed with cola or other drinks and will give a very tasty profile to cocktails."

Tasted at Ruins, San Antonio
November 6 2023
Appearance: Amber
Aroma: smoke, pepper, brown sugar
Flavor: brown sugar, vanilla, white pepper. This is a peppery rum, with peppery staying power. Not unpleasant - but unusual for its pervasiveness
