This is not a rum for me, tastes like really cheap cognac. VSOP and 4 years is nothing.

Had just a sample of this 4yo VSOP Agricole.
From nose, via mouth and palate to the rather short finish it’s nutty and smoky with possibilities to recognize fruits, vanilla, oak and bourbon.
Overall an typical AOC Agricole for its age thats not especially complex or characterful.
Picture: My emptied sample poured in a glass.

So, it starts with a rich vanilla flavor and the finish is a smokey end. It's a nice rum but not the best i ever had.

Oak and smoke on the nose, with a bit of grass. Lots of oak, some caramel, and grass on the palate. Very smooth, and a good sipper. I agree with some of the other reviews that this feels a bit like a whiskey.

($49CAD) Woa. Bourbon? Nope, this is rhum Agricole from Martinique. Doesn’t smell too much like rum. It doesn’t taste like any of the rum I’ve had before this either. Tastes like a lot of bourbons I’ve had though, at least at first.
Then a bit of grassy flavour comes through with a healthy amount of heat throughout. Decent amount of finish to help you mull over whatever is on your mind.
An interesting rhum, nice when you want a break from the sweeter sippers. I find it hard to find a bad rum - maybe I just pick good ones... Even though this isn’t my jam, I still quite enjoy it. Especially given the price, give this one a shot.
Update: I find this is a great addition to my collection purely based on variety and price. I will be keeping this in my usual rotation.

Very good is quite different from what I used to drink (Barbancourt) very smooth and has no harsh alcohol feeling, I was expecting more like the herbal flavor but is very dim.
Nose: Candies.
Taste: smooth, kind of reminds me of a Cognac.
The aftertaste is where you feel more of the herbal and sugarcane properties.

Nice and warm. Grass and rosemary on the nose. Woody and cider-like on the palette. Really lovely and an easy supper.

Surprisingly good for an agricole, but still not my cup of tea. Feels more like a Cognac than rum to me. But it's a good spirit overall that's smooth and not just an alcohol burn

Aroma: caramel, toffee, oak
Mouthfeel: soft and light, bit of lingering burn on the lips with none on the tongue or throat
Palate: caramel and light cacao give way to banana and grassy rubber at the finish.
Overall: decent, but a bit one-dimensional.
