It's a base mixer. Not much going on. Overused in my opinion. It's a dark colored rum. Blackwell is my tiki replacement for this.

Dark with added color (supposedly), some funk, oakiness is ok. Have yet to try it in a traditional Trader Vic Mai Tai. Might be a very different dark floater. Hmmm.

The perfect amount of flavor: it can always punch through in tiki drinks that call for "dark Jamaican rum," yet it never overpowers. It has a really interesting flavor: there is both that banana funk, and also a little bit of that smokiness that reminds me of a Demerara rum

Tiki tiki tiki.
Goslings is pretty good.
Blackwell is nice.
Merchants Reserve 100 proof Dark is the o my competition for this one though, when it comes to mixing up a nice planters punch or other tiki standby. Just a shame itโ€™s so rarely stocked around my neck of the woods.
Get some!

An easy drinking spirit that is my go to for recipes that call for a dark rum. It's not as funky as I was expecting/as the reviews make it out to be but the funk is definitely there albeit subtle. I wouldn't label this as a sipping rum but it adds an excellent depth to any tiki cocktail without being too overpowering or sweet. At an extremely affordable price point this should be a definite must for anyones home bar.

This stuff is amazing. Dark, rich, and delicious. The best Jamaican run out there.

Molasses molasses molasses! I really do appreciate the unique flavor of this rum. Mixes fantastic with Mexican coke and a lime. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but it is my favorite dark.

Works in a many cocktails, but outside a mai tai it's a bit behind.

It was time to head to a well stocked rum bar with a list of rums that I wanted to sample before buying. I will start with the worst of five trials, which is this one. I knew in advance that this should not be sipped neat and is only used as a Tiki mixer mainly in New Zealand. My initial response was , "Yuck!" and I could not even finish my half ounce pour. Stick with Meyer's Dark to serve the purpose of this bitter mixer.

Made for a great rum and coke, bob Marley and other mixed drinks at the all inclusive resort in Jamaica. Good flavor but didnโ€™t drink neat so now sure how that would go.
